Thank you!
We have limited time as we’re off to Fort Jefferson which will take up 1 day and we’d hoped to get to Hemmingway’s house too. I will google them all now whilst OH is swimming.

So our room was ROASTING 🥵
After a couple of hours the engineer decided it was broken although he didn’t speak English so we had to rely on DS to do his best to do the talking! He managed it 👏🏻 His Spanish is far better than I thought! So, it was room change time which quite honestly was pretty annoying. We were moving on in the morning and all the faffing around was eating into our last evening. Anyway, I called down to reception as a new room hadn’t materialised after some time and eventually someone arrived with a key. I think they should have sent someone to help really but they didn’t! The engineer did assist as far as the lift which was kind of him. At least we’re mainly packed so it has meant we have had a nice, relaxing morning. Anyway... after all that it was pretty late but we really wanted to go out to a pizza place we’d found on YouTube called Mister O1 OH called to reset ve a table and I’m so glad he did! It’s tiny. There are 6 tables! It’s also completely hidden away but our Uber driver was stubborn and didn’t give up! Someone approached and asked us where we were headed. It was all very secret squirrel! They sent us through an unmarked door and told us to go right. This place is so, so good! I can’t recommend it enough. The pizzas are incredible and the staff are just so welcoming, knowledgable and efficient. Controversial but I’m not ashamed to say we had a pineapple pizza! 😋 We also chose the star pizza (all those little pockets are full of ricotta) with salami and the burrata and truffle pizza which was without a doubt the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. Prosecco was only $7 a glass so I had a couple and beer was inexpensive too. No dessert and we have the leftovers in the fridge for this morning 😋 You really have to eat here! Edited at 01:52 PM. |

Day 3
I woke at about 4 completely dripping with sweat and called down for an engineer. The room was about 27 degrees 🥵 Despite the balcony door being closed and locked it turns out the connection wasn’t sufficient so the air con in this room had cut out entirely! He opened and slammed it shut and a blast of cold air hit me. I thanked him and off he went. Somehow the others were oblivious to all of this! I was now wide awake so lay writing up yesterday’s food! We’d intended to go to the 11th street diner but actually time got the better of us in the end. I noticed we’d had our resort fees waived on checkout, well, it certainly looks that way, so that was appreciated. We packed up, got an Uber to Alamo, picked up a massive car (it’s way too big! They must have run out of cars in our class) drove back up to the hotel, loaded our bags and headed to Hawks Cay. The traffic leaving Miami was far more terrifying than last time but that may just have been because OH is not used to driving a tank?! It’s a very boring journey. I’m kind of dreading the way back up now. We checked in at about 3 ish, changed and hit the pool. I really like it here. I had my reservations after reading a few reviews of it being over-run with screaming children. I’d like to just clarify that I love children but I do have an issue with the mentality we keep witnessing (particularly with the visitors to the last hotel) of just letting very little ones run riot. I think it’s possibly a cultural thing. Anyway, there is none of that here at all. It’s been lovely. I’d definitely stay again. We have a lovely room which is just a standard queen which overlooks the pool and the lagoon A 32oz mojito for me, a beer for DH and a non alcoholic pina colada for DS DS chose a burger for lunch with pulled pork and all sorts of other stuff on it. He asked if they could switch the patty out for an impossible patty because he wanted to try it but they said no substitutions. That’s ok but I was quite surprised. He really rated this! It was actually cooked med/rare as he’d asked and I think that’s pretty good for a pool bar. OH and I didn’t bother with food at lunchtime. Further cocktails were consumed and we all swam in the lagoon and pool which was fun. It is like having 2 children sometimes as they do bicker but they were actually being nice to each other 😆 At about 8:45 we decided we should shower and find something to eat. Amazingly DS wasn’t that fussed about food but he decided he’d join us anyway. We chose Angler and Ale which is on the resort. We had thought we’d try the steak restaurant but I was practically falling asleep by now. I thought food was required considering how many cocktails I’d had but an expensive meal seemed a waste. We had the following. DH - wedge salad with grilled shrimp I personally think this is a seriously stingy qty of shrimp! I mean, there are ‘about 3’ of them! DS decided to have a starter instead of a main and chose lobster mac and cheese. He thought the lobster was over cooked and quite chewy I chose the fish sandwich of the day which was blackened mahi mahi. This came with fries or salad with a key lime vinegarette. I chose salad which was actually a massive side. This was all perfectly nice. Nothing to write home about but nice all the same. We went back to the room, I went to bed and DH and DS went back to the 24 hour pool until a storm approached and they had to leave. I woke fairly early again so sat on the balcony for a bit before we needed to pack up and checkout ready for our trip to the turtle hospital 🐢 Edited at 10:01 PM. |

Thank you to everyone for reading along.
We had our first night in Key West last night. Wow, it’s hot here! We’re considering staying an extra couple of nights and skipping AMI because the weather there has been awful there for weeks and it’s apparently pretty flooded 🤔

The heat in Key West is something else.
Use the Duval Loop to get around...it's the free bus, and the aircon is like an ice box... Stay for longer...you won't regret it..💖

Day 4
After packing up we headed a few miles down the road to the tutle hospital in Marathon. It’s $25 for adults for a 90 minute tour. I think children were $12.50 🤔 It was really busy so I’d say booking is essential. It was really informative. There’s a little presentation about all the breeds and the rescue work and then they show you the hospital. After that it’s out to the tanks to meet the patients 🐢😍 They rescue around 100 a year and they’re already up to 82 this year! Some have a virus which means they have lots of tumours that need removing and others have been hit by boats or have been attacked by sharks. Most are released eventually unless they have bubble butt. *** I started writing that with an almighty hangover yesterday which was not ideal. I had to give in and pack up very slowly for our next stop. I’ll carry on in a new post. Back to normal now and well aware of my limitations! Edited at 09:34 PM. |
