You can buy them from Sainsburys but I emailed Heathrow Disability contact and they sent me 2 in the post within a few days. It does say Heathrow on the front. Edit: And they did ask date of travel and flight numbers Edited at 08:40 PM. |

hi
just to let you all know - it is recognised at orlando mco, my daughter used it the other year as she was going through lots of dizzy episodes and they noticed it straight away and took us to the front of the line straight away, just find one of the assistants that sort out the lines and they will point you or take you to the front of the line. (i am not sure if there is now a specific disability line now though as at christmas i noticed a seperate line some people with the lanyards were in?) Due to the ongoing refurbishments at orlando it is sometimes different but if you are unsure just ask one of the airport assistants. The mco assistants at immigration are well aware of the lanyard as he pointed it out to us without us saying anything. Also coming back - we could not find the disability line for mco security so we just asked one of the guards and she found another guard to take us straight to the front of the security line also. Stacey Dont be afraid to ask - they are very accomodating. Edited at 08:48 PM. |

Sounds like the above person was very lucky in MCO with the treatment they got. The Heathrow website makes it quite clear that the lanyard does not get you FastTrack security or Priority boarding (although the latter is for your airline to decide, surely).
The lanyard is a great idea as it's designed to allow people with hidden disabilities - many of whom are fiercely independent & do not need Special Assistance - that bit of extra time / leeway when passing through the airport. e.g. get something innocently slightly wrong / take a little longer at security and the staff should cut you some slack if they spot the lanyard. The airports need to be careful on the benefits (perceived or otherwise) that the lanyard holders get - as they are clearly easy to obtain - or too many people will get them. This would be a real shame. If they stick to the staff being lenient and allowing the wearer extra time / assistance / sending them down the assistance lane at security, then they have struck the right balance. You can also guarantee that the airport shops will all recognise the lanyards & be only too happy to help as shopping is a big revenue generator for airports. |

I checked with Gatwick after having one from Heathrow awhile back. They said to use the Heathrow one either with or without the card that says Heathrow attached as its the same lanyard.
Thanks for the info. Travelling solo in September and the airport is always one of the worse things for me so hopefully the lanyard will help.
