Four Points on a Fat Boy - August 2012 - Day 6
Four Points on a Fat Boy Wednesday 1st Saturday 11th August 2012
Cast members: Me Alanda riding bikes for nearly 20 years now, but enjoying being pillion on this trip. Current bike is Harley Davidson 883 Sportster. DH Wiggy riding bikes since just after he could walk I think - say over 35 years! Current bike Harley Davidson Fat Boy. Day 6. Thirsk Glenfarg 217 miles Our route today was to take us through Jedburgh, which had suffered from a flash flood the day before, and heavy rain was forecast again in Jedburgh and beyond on the route we were taking. Bearing this in mind we decided to miss Hadrians Wall, which we had scheduled a stop at, in the hope that we would avoid the rain. The first stop was Angel of the North near Gateshead, and to get there we had to spend some time on the A1(M). We arrived at the Angel mid-morning - she is incredible and absolutely massive. Back on the bike we headed for Jedburgh on the A69, then A68 which took us on a lovely run through Northumberland National Park. The views through here are stunning go if you ever have never been. We stopped when we reached the Scottish borders but soon pushed on to Jedburgh, where we could see the diggers and heavy plant that had been used the day before during the flash floods. We stopped for petrol, at which point the heavy rain materialised, but as it looked brighter ahead we decided to carry on and ride through it. The next destination was Edinburgh Harley Davidson, where Wiggy was tempted by a couple of nice glides there, but I only let him buy a t-shirt and on we went over the Forth Bridge. The rain caught us as we got to the far side, so the wets went on again and we got on the M90 for a bit until the turning for Glenfarg, where we were staying for the night at the Famous Bein Inn. Not sure what it was famous for, but the food was good, and the Magners better, so we settled down again to study weather forecast and the route for tomorrow.
