they released the account to attract new banking customers- doesn't look like they will be retaining all of them though! It couldn't go on forever but didn't think they would halve the rate.

I think if you have the full £20,000 in there it will still be worthwhile. Other accounts pay more but only on smaller balances. Plenty of discussion on MSE about it.

They increased the fee from £2 to £5 and now this, I know I get cashback on my bills but that is only about £2-3 so doesn't cover the fees. I feel like going out and buying a load of gold bars and hiding them under my bed, no I'm not giving my address out to anyone

Really disappointed, I expected a rate cut but not that huge.

Will definitely take the interest until November and then shop around.

We have just opened one, all finalized last week.

We did ask the girl about this rate drop when we were opening it as my DH had read something about it in line, and she was very quick to tell us it was nonsense and not going to happen.!

It takes effect 1st November, so a couple months of ok interest.
Even with the rate drop its still higher than most accounts.

Found some old paperwork a little while ago and one account was paying 6.50% interest!
Don't think we'll ever see those rates again

As I mentioned earlier in the thread there is the Virgin money account which you get 1.2% with no upper limit and no fee! So it is a win win

We have 3 accounts. Expected a drop but not this much.

Is this a 'new' rate or is it likely to drop too?

Is this the defined access e saver? I would expect that rate to drop. I have already had a letter about a rate drop with Virgin

You get the interest annually so I wouldn't expect it to drop for a lot least 1 year!
