AVIS and BA - Upgrading Car Hire - Check your price before you call
All,
There's been various posts recently about amending your hire car to get it cheaper / cheap upgrade. If like me, you prefer to monitor the upgrade price daily / weekly etc.. you can do it yourself on the BA / AVIS website - avisba/avisonline/gb/...manage_booking Step 1 - Log into the below with your SURNAME and AVIS booking ref which can be found on your paper work or within your AVIS preferred app. avisba/avisonline/gb/...manage_booking Make a note of your RENTAL PRICE. Step 2 - Select Modify Booking at the bottom Right Step 3 - Press Continue - Step 4 - Review your Hire Car upgrade options - The price to upgrade is the presented price minus the RENTAL PRICE on step 1, plus a £25 admin fee if you call BA> You also have the option on Step 3 to select your car group choice from the drop down menu and press continue to generate a quote too, so in the event you wanted to downgrade, select the car of choice, make a note of the rental price, then deduct this price from the RENTAL PRICE which is presented as soon as you logged it. From the times i have compared over recent months to calling up, these prices always seem to be about the same. There are some reports of people in the past upgrading their car via this portal and doing the fully process online, though i cant provide any feedback for doing this, so if you intend to do it, you are doing it at your own risk. (What i have noted with BA, when you upgrade your car hire, they dont upgrade your current booking, they in-fact cancel and rebook you so you get a new confirmation number each time. I recommend you do not progress past STEP 4 if you are unsure. NOTE - once you are logged in, what ever you do amend is your responsibility and i can offer no advice to fix anything if you mess something up. In addition, if you do press cancel within the portal, it will in-fact cancel your booking and BA will be unable to reinstate it with the only option of a refund minus 20% admin fee. Thanks

Really good information RickT.
Thanks for doing this. After the last couple of days I better not start looking for upgrade options again at the moment. Good to remember your post for future upgrade possibilities.

Great post Rick T. I'll monitor the price changes myself now rather than keeping phoning BA.

what would be ideal would be someone who is thinking of upgrading, record the online price and then ring BA for their phone price to ensure the prices are the same. As mentioned, it has been about the same when i have called. but worth other checking all the same.

I called yesterday and it was £108 to upgrade but not sure if that included admin fee. Using your link today Rick T the difference was about £130 (can't remember exact number) so seems pretty accurate to me.

What i have noticed is the discounts are not applied to all cars at the same time, so at this moment in time Group Z's maybe cheaper compared to Group V's as an example.
Couple of weeks ago, there was only £30 difference between a Group Z Full size SUV and a Class L, (Premium Full Size SUV like a Surburan etc) however, it was approx a £400 + upgrade to the Group Z. All comes down to dynamic pricing model. to ensure they are renting out all the fleet in a managed fashion to ensure the smaller cars are always available for walk up customers who pay a premium. (Thats my logic anyway.)

I’ve been trying to ring up for weeks. Check the price online to see if it gone down then either can’t get through on the phone or I forget. By which time the prices have gone up again.
Thank you for the instructions. I have a look today and if I get chance I’ll ring up and report back. |
