I really hope they can all see each through this hell'ish time in being a student.

The one good thing that has come out of all this is that she has become very radicalised in her thinking... knows the students are getting a raw deal with the Uni's and the Government and is getting involved with taking on the authorities for some justice for herself and fellow students in the same boat.
I really feel for the first years having to settle in and make friends during the pandemic. I’m so sorry your daughter has had such awful experiences with her flatmates but she’s certainly done well and has been very strong and determined to stick it throughout, well done to her

I do hope your children manage to have a better experience for their second year.

I agree the media portrayed students in such a bad light. My DD and her housemates have only socialised with each other and played video games, baked cookies and gone for socially distanced walks around the city. They aren’t the only students keeping to the guidelines either.

Fingers crossed for a safe return for them all as soon as possible 😄

I think the first years in some respects have had it harder because they were also adapting to both the newness of going to university and covid. Though it isn’t easy for any of them!

O is now out of quarantine and enjoying his freedom to roam. The restrictions are going to be lifted even further this weekend (it was Chinese New Year last weekend so in restaurant dining was only to 6pm). He has been out this evening to downtown and had a 5 guys milkshake. He doesn’t have any lectures on Fridays so his weekend starts today 🤣 Though he still has a lot of work to do. His lectures are still online but the campus is open as is the library so he is managing well.

I hope everyone’s kids get back to F2F lectures soon.

That must have been sooo difficult for him, it would be difficult for a mature adult, but for a young adult, admirable. (I realise he had no choice but to remain in quarantine but still, well done!) Hats off to him!
Hope he has THE best weekend to celebrate his release!

That’s so good that O has more freedom again, quarantine must have been so difficult. He’s been amazing to deal with everything he has so well. He certainly deserved a milkshake to celebrate (I would love a Five Guys milkshake right now, I’m really craving milkshake today 😂 ) I hope O has a good weekend and his course goes well for him now he’s returned

Thank you! The plus side is that he has somehow managed to only be in lockdown for 5 days since this all started by just being in the right country at the right time 🤣

DD is at the start of a 4 year degree course. Adding another year on top of that wouldn't go down too well.

It is difficult for them. Amazingly, my DD managed to make some friends and last week they actually signed a contract for a student house next year (i.e. from Sept). The contract whizzed round the country by post to each of them.

Everything seems to happen far sooner than when I was at Uni. They were looking at houses for their second year back in November and DD was worried they were leaving it too late! I'm sure we didn't start looking for accommodation until the final term.

There is no way my dd would want to redo a year.. lack of a social life has meant serious studying and stellar marks.

It does seem to happen very quickly now. My DD and her friends signed the contract in November last year for her second year. Her and her friends spent a few days rushing to house viewings with several other groups also looking at the same time. She was very anxious that they wouldn’t get a nice house as demand was so high.

Thankfully she has a nice house in the Clifton area of Bristol which is a lovely area and not far to the uni (although she’s not actually had to go in very often) Even though they haven’t been there as much as they should have been she and her friends have got on well and like it so much they’ve signed the contract for next year.

I do hope your DD, and mine, manages to get more use out of her house next year

That has been a bonus in some ways, less distractions so better grades 😀
