Mobile Anyone left holding foreign currency they won't use ?

After our Canada trip was cancelled I'm left holding $800 CA when I have no plans to go to Canada.

I hate cashing money back in as the exchange rate is always rubbish.

I know it's so annoying , even with a guaranteed buy back, you still lose out. We are pretty good at not over buying but on the occasions when we have we ask around if anyone else is going away and needs it, then we meet halfway with the exchange rate and that usually works for both parties without losing out

Hang onto it then exchange when you’re next on holiday into whatever the local currency is? I’ve done this from time to time. TBH i don’t know if this saves me money or not but feels like I’m cutting two money exchanges down to one.

I do this too. I have never done the maths to see if it has achieved anything financially, but it is one transaction rather than two which may count for something.

I use the message board at work - people are always selling/buying currency. Always get a good deal, hate being ripped off by the highstreet bandits.

We’ve got dollars but usually keep a small amount for next time. A few random notes from various places are stuck in a box

I’ve got loads of Serbian dinar, a few hundred quids worth that I forgot about from a trip there to see Man Utd play partizan Belgrade, just hoping we get the or red star again soon! Nobody in the U.K. offers a good rate buying it back

I have been holding $3000 US since returning from a vacation in August of 2019.

There was never any doubt that I would need it in the future and therefore never any thought of cashing it in at a lousy rate..
