Tell me about Ohana at dinner

Hi All,
Apologies if this has been asked multiple times. I keep reading about how people love Ohana and quite fancy it for our trip in August (I've actually stayed at the Poly on my last trip to WDW in 1998 but don't recall eating at Ohana).
I know that there are no characters at dinner, which is OK as we plan to book 3 or 4 other character dining experiences, but I have also heard there is some kind of other fun interaction for the kids. Does this happen at dinner too, or only at breakfast and lunch when it's character dining? Our kids will be 9 and 6.
Also, if we wanted to time dinner with the fireworks how do I find out what time the fireworks are and when to book the table for?
Thanks

I have not been, but if you look at the restaurants page on the Disney site it describes the evening activities, hula dancing and coconut races etc. Correct no characters though.

I think the Poly and its restaurants polarise opinion. I want not go back, bear market.

Hi
I could be wrong but I do think the coconut races have stopped haven’t seen them for a few years , there is singing and dancing where kids can join in , the coconut races pushing coconuts around the restaurant with brushes whilst the food was being served was perhaps an accident waiting to happen !
‘Ohanas is a family favourite for us it’s a must do.

We didn’t like it at all. It’s been a while but the service was so bad at dinner I wouldn’t consider going back and there seems to be still consistent reports that mirror our experience.
We did enjoy the breakfast at Ohana and dinner at Kona.

Apparently the noodles have also been replaced by curried rice. Not sure if this is a temporary change

We went July last year and felt it was all a bit sweet and over priced, I did like the prawn skewers which were delicious, I wouldn’t go back for dinner, Breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed that x
We asked for fries at dinner as ds Is a bit fussy, they were lovely

I wouldn't have thought Disney would still mention coconut races on their website if they stopped doing them a few years ago. . Anyway I just checked tripadvisor and somebody who went there five days ago mentions there were coconut races.

Hugely disappointing, don't believe the hype. There are dozens of better places to eat, I will never go back.

I would never go back, I found the whole service, seating, ambience and food hugely disappointing. I still physically shudder (and I really mean it) when I think of the taste of the beef skewers. But maybe it was just a bad day, I don’t know. Came out hungry anyway!

We are in Orlando at the moment - and I was looking forward to this meal. We ate 2 nights ago- i feel it is overrated and I was disappointed. The pineapple bread was dry and flavourless. Nice salad. The dumplings were nice but the wings overly sweet. Prawn skewers nice but beef extremely chewy. Chicken was so so. The bread pudding I found stodgy. At $220 for family of four, it's not worth it. (I'll duck before I'm shot!).
Tonight, we ate a tasty dinner at Raglan Rd, disney springs. Enjoyed it so much that we cancelled tomorrow's reservation at T-rex to go again.
