We have never had less than two keys when renting from Alamo. I would persevere in trying to contact them.

I've never had more than 1 key from memory (but may have in distant past) and I ve been renting in USA for 25+ years. Certainly not in a long time . I just rented from Alamo 2 weeks ago- 1 key, never gave it a second thought. This past year I reckon I've hired maybe 10 vehicles in various countries , given 1 key every time.
Don't bother contacting them, why would they give you both, risk losing both, and them having no keys for the car? Makes no sense.

yes it seems be standard practice now to just give you one key... gone are the days of sneaking in to walmart to 'borrow' wirecutters to split the keys up

Not that I ever did that but Tom Morrow is a serial offender !

Me! Never, well it's not my fault as I look at the tools that the darn cutters leap out at me, worm into my pocket and cut the key loop.

I think I will sue Walmart.

Actually it must be 3 years or so since I had 2 x keys. Quite rare now.

Now you mention it I do recall the wire on keys so perhaps I did have two keys in the distant past.

We got two keys now on our Explorer - well two keys with the barrels taken out of the top and on there too. Opposite of others - I can’t remember ever only getting one.

Pain in the rear as bulky, so may accidentally detach them in Walmart later.

*apologies for pic, it’s 5am here - woke up and can’t get back to sleep so taken with flash in drawer.

Like others we haven't had two keys for a few years but when we did we somehow ended up will one key each. We now take a photo of the key including any numbers , details etc in a hope that it would help us get a replacement key quicker if we, sorry I every misplaced it.

For those who might worry then maybe ask the agent when picking up the car to make a note on the reservation that you were only given one key and happy motoring.
