New York - December or February?

We’re planning a 4 night trip to NY, but it needs to be during school holidays. I’m looking at either December (27-31) or February (15-19). We’ve been in October before, but not sure which is better?

BA have prices out for our February dates, and it’s coming in around £600 cheaper than December. Which would you do?

Thanks for in advance.

Definitely Dec.
I can’t wait to return in Dec with my husband after a girls trip.
The atmosphere, the decorations, the rockettes Christmas show, the tree, the window displays all spectacular!
Really want to return, but the crowds are something else, quite difficult to navigate around some areas.

I have been both times of year, I used to do a lot of work trips to NY and went one Christmas for leisure. I don’t think either would be my first choice, but I would definitely pick December ahead of February due to weather.

A few years ago we went for Christmas, it was magical, the previous year we went in October. On Christmas Day we went for a walk around the whole of Central Park, we only had our Christmas jumpers and jeans on as it was very mild, we only wore our coats a couple of times during the whole week. February will be muck colder than December in my opinion. The atmosphere was incredible at Christmas too. Either will be brilliant though. Enjoy.

I have done both! February was a lot colder but less busy!

Must go back!

Thanks everyone. I think we’ll go for December 😁. Prices are fluctuating a lot at the moment, but hopefully get booked soon. Looking at staying at the Riu Plaza Times Square (can get a slightly larger family room and breakfast).

We went last year for your exact days in February. It genuinely wasn’t that cold. It was perfect, just how I imagined, clear blue sky and sunny and then a little snow on the day we came home. I had been worried about the weather but did not need to be. As long as you have the right footwear and clothing you will be fine. It wasn’t over busy either.
Having said that if I had the chance to go at Christmas it would be lovely to see the city decorated up.

If you are looking at family size rooms check out the family junior suite at the Broadway Plaza Hotel The room was huge, with 2 doubles and a double sofa bed. Only a subway stop or 10 minute walk from Times Square and free continental breakfast. Would highly recommend.

December! The Christmas atmosphere is just so worth it, and definitely go to see the Rockettes Christmas spectacular at Radio City, its amazing!
When you come out after the show, you can admire the big tree from home alone, at the rockefellar centre.

We did 27-31 Dec last year (i.e. 2 months ago). Just did a trip report if that helps (link in my sig).

It was great from a Xmas decorations point of view, but was very, very busy. Far busier than I've ever seen before in NYC.
