Mobile Cheap (Safe) Hotels in New York

Hi. We are looking at spending 2 or 3 nights in New York next September.

Does anyone have any ideas for hotels that are reasonably priced, in safe areas?
Thanks
James

Hi, I’ve never felt unsafe in NYC. What’s your budget?

We stayed here as a family of 4, great location, felt very safe Includes breakfast;
Hampton Inn New York - 35th Street - Empire State Building, New York; we had a great view of Empire State Building.
Only stayed 3 nights there, 5 nights in Hampton inn NJ for malls and Washington day trip (travelled in to NY for NYE as didn’t want to pay the same for 1 night) and final night in Times Square. Moving hotels is reasonably simple in NY as you give $1 per case for left luggage, and can pick it up later in the day. Depends on your definition of cheap I guess, this was 4 years ago and NY rooms were $250-300 a day. NJ was around $120 a night (including NYE) for compurison. We used Expedia / booking.com and Quidco.

NY is one of the safest cities in the world. Yes there are some 'dodgy' parts but there's some of those in every single place in the world.

If you're looking in Midtown area look at 6th/7th/8th Avenues and roughly 40th-55th Street (ish, can't quite remember how far it goes down!)

We went to the Sheraton Times Square on 52nd St/7th Ave in 2016 and believe they've had a big refurb since then, and we stayed at the Westin on 8th Av this year. Both are very good and would recommend them. If you're on a budget look at further afield or even NJ and look at getting the subway from there.

We stayed at the Broadway Plaza 2 years ago, it was right on Broadway so no side streets to negotiate late at night.

We stayed at the pod in Times Sq in April, on a main road very close to buses, the river, subway and lots of shops and place to eat nearby. 5 min walk to times sq itself, the hotel is on 42nd st.

We also stayed here. Right next to the subway. Also gave free continental breakfast. This enabled us to eat quickly to get out early every day. I would say the breakfast probably saved us at least £40 a day.
I booked through ebookers. Paid approximately £200 a night for a room for 4. A double would be less. Booked through Quidco and got 12% back in cash back.

We’ve done luxury and super budget NYc hotels. The recent budget one was comfort inn Times Square West. It was 5 mins from TS so easy links everywhere. Rooms small but clean and comfy. Free breakfast was nice enough to get going. I think I paid £800 for 5 nights for 4 people at Easter, there were no resort fees (this was last year not sure if it’s changed since!)

We went to New York a few years ago for my birthday, we found it cheapest to book flight and hotel through BA, booked in their New Year sales, we stayed in a hotel called Hotel Metro, its very near the Empire State Building and about 10 mins walk from Times Square. The room included breakfast, which saves us loads and was a nice way to start our day. We discovered if you want to do New York on a budget avoid alcohol, DH has a glass of wine with his meal one night and doubled the price of the meal
