Volunteers needed to train to give the vaccine!
Just had an email from the NHS volunteer service with links to sign up to train to give the vaccine! No experience needed except 2 A levels as far as I can see? It's being done via St John's Ambulance
nhsvolunteerresponders.u...V,QSDRX,IGWT,1 Not sure I'm up to giving people vaccines! Blimey 😬

Why would you need 2 a levels?

I was registered to give vacines whenever worked as a nurse and have had the email will you come back yes I will but I want retraining and liability cover it’s not just as simple as sticking a needle in someone’s arm you need to ask questions make sure recipients understand questions in some cases is external permission granted / legal
Does your clinical judgement ask does The client understand / are family if appropriate informed and agree Religious implications Anaphylactic shock care It’s a mine field for anyone giving vacines believe me not one of us in 10 /15\years want to be held accountable if something goes wrong Just my stance I add |

Agreed. It’s not as straight forward as ‘stick them with the pointy bit’. Even qualified vaccinators will need training before they administer this vaccine.

Forgive my ignorance please as I may be talking absolute pants.
Why is training needed? Is there a specific part of the arm that has to be used or can the needle go in any old where? Do you for example have to avoid muscle etc? I don't know so I'm not being flippant However what is to stop dozens of volunteers working separate 'lines' say at an industrial estate with people snaking in and back out after being jabbed But incorporate in that site 1 medical person who would deal with those who faint or have a reaction. Put it this way I couldn't care if they said my Amazon delivery Guy will do it. Why are we over complicating it?

Yes there is a specific part of the arm that you inject. I’m a trained nurse but have never administered a vaccine and to be honest don’t even know if it’s intramuscular or subcutaneous. You also need to know allergies specific to the make up of the vaccine and how to manage a patient if they become unwell after it. I have to assume that an army of volunteers is going to be supported by an equally large army of trained nurses, doctors and paramedics.

Got you. I now know a bit more as I had no idea about intramuscular or subcutaneous.
Thanks Lisa.
