Viging to orlando via new York
On the virgin site it shows you flights to orlando via New Yorkwith a 2 hour stop over
Can you extend that stop over for say 2 days

Not if you want it on a single reservation as you’d be coming out of the airport and therefore would need to clear security again when you came back in. You would need to book it as 2 separate reservations.

I have booked flights with a 2 or more day stop over en route on a single booking. It is a common feature, especially say on the way to Australia. There is every chance it is available on a US flight too.
Coming out of security does not make it two bookings. I will leave the airport next month when I arrive in Orlando, my outward and return flights are still one reservation. OP probably needs to call VA, although I have seen multi day stopovers bookable on line with BA. |

Virgin have a "Multi-City" feature online. Just select it instead of "Return".

If you read some TR's on here you will find members who have done various stopovers. Seems a common one is 10 nights in Orlando and 4 in New York. -Steve

You can do it in a single booking, but it may impact the price. For airlines, a "connection" is when the onward flight scheduled departure time is less than 24 hours after the scheduled arrival time of the first flight. Anything longer than 24 hours between flights is called a "stopover" (so in the OP's example, 2 hours is a connecting flight, 2 days is a stopover).
This may matter because some fares allow stopovers without extra cost versus a connection, and others do not. It is indicated in the detailed fare conditions, though these are not always easy to find or read when searching prices on airline websites. Using the multi-city options to check prices and trying various combinations is easier, and should show what is available. It is also worth checking out booking an "open jaw" return (out to NYC, back from Orlando), and booking the domestic flight separately (with the same or another carrier). This can sometimes work out cheaper, and with the days between flights, there is no particular need to have that domestic flight on the same booking (though watch out for baggage charges, which may be included on a through ticket, but not on a domestic bought separately). Happy researching. Edited at 04:16 PM. |
