Favourite Vegas hotels

Was just being Nosey and wondering if you have a favourite Vegas hotel and why? With there being so many to choose from, what makes you finally decide to book there? Or do you have a favourite you keep going back to?
We have only been once, we stayed at TheHotel and loved it, the luxury of having a separate living area worked really well for us (dh is an early morning person). We are finding it hard deciding where to choose to stay next

Only been once but would go back to the Bellagio, preferred its quieter feeling to the others we walked around. Did like the Pallazzo and Venetian as well though.

South point is our number 1 favourite out of all those we have stayed in. It is off strip though which would put some people off .

Tropicana ,(we've had 2 long stays there')NYNY and Planet Hollywood are all hotels we would stop in again , all have nice modern rooms and a good feel to the hotel, we just had good stays in all 3.

I have stayed in the flamingo 3 times but there won't be a 4th even though the rooms have supposedly been renovated ( read painted the walls and new duvets etc ) it's still the same old furniture and tbh none of us really enjoyed our stay there this year. My kids really don't ever want to stay there again after being at the other nice hotels we've stayed at .

Excalibur , not really on my list to stay there again.

I think for us of we don't stop at South Point again we will stick to MGM properties. Service is better and rooms seem much nicer .

I saw the other day the The Hotel is now going to be called the Delano and is having some work on it .

I have stayed in:

Planet Hollywood - but it was the Aladdin then so has changed a lot.

Excalibur - many times excellent value for money but would only book tower 2 for the updated wide screen rooms.

Luxor - have stayed in a tower room and visited a pyramid room (prefer the tower room) okay but the decor is dark in keeping with the theme and wouldn't pay the additional cost to the Excalibur as not worth it.

Imperial Palace - well very cheap and cheerful but right centre of the Strip and one of the few hotels with all balcony rooms. It is very run down but certainly served our purpose although you need to be careful what room you have as some are right about the loud entertainment area.

Tropicana - was lucky enough to only pay £25 a night when I went for a December last minute deal. They were still carrying out renovations but it did not have any impact on where I was staying and they gave me one of the updated rooms with a view of the Strip. Very nice indeed.

Signature Suites at MGM - probably our favourite place to stay even though it is 'off Strip'. We have now stayed twice and like the freedom to make a hot drink when we want and have some breakfast before starting our day. I have now become spoilt and don't want the bulk standard hotel room in Vegas as they are usually around the same size (no matter of * rating) and you don't get facilities like kettle or microwave.

We are looking at places like the Vdara or the Hilton Suites (several locations) or Carriage house for next years trip.

I know some people like mid Strip but we actually like South Strip as there are a lot of hotels in one small area (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, New York New York, Tropicana, MGM and Monte Carlo) When I say 'small' this is by Vegas standards so you still have to do some walking!

You can pay a lot of money for a room in Vegas but personal I like value for money and won't spend a lot for the hotel 'name' especially as you are unlikely to get anything 'visibly' more for your $.

Okay, I'll play...places I've stayed in recently:

TheHotel at Mandalay Bay : a really nice, big suite at the non casino sister property of the Mandalay Bay (it's an all suite hotel). The separate bedroom was lovely, as were the 2 bathrooms. You get full use of MB facilities (including that fabulous pool area) too. Of the suites we've stayed in, I think this was just the nicest.

MGM Grand : for me, the best 'value for money' rooms in Las Vegas. The Grand Tower rooms are around a third larger than 'average' Strip size. Great facilities with (for me) the best pool area in the city. There are (at last count) 31 different eateries here too. What really stands out here is the unfailingly pleasant and helpful attitude of the staff.

Signature Suites : At the rear of the MGM itself (but a five minute walk to The Strip via Harmon Avenue) the Signature had the best equipped rooms for a family, in that it was spacious (without being as big as the Palazzo or TheHotel suites) but had a mini kitchen that was superbly put together. You get full use of the MGM facilities too as a guest here, including the fabulous pool area. You also get a much quieter pool at your tower, which isn't used by the guests of the MGM itself. You can pick up decent private rentals here using V R B O. Highly recommended.

Aria : A very modern and hi tec room - you can set the curtains, tv and air con to return to your favoured settings as you enter the room... It just lacks a bit of 'oomph' for me - faceless and fairly bland. But it's perfectly good - just not in a Las Vegas 'way' if that makes sense. The property itself is absolutely vast.

Caesars Palace : It's iconic and it's ridiculously large and I've stayed there twice so I fully understand it's 'pull' but... I think it's over-rated. Especially when you factor in the cost too. The rooms are actually some of the smaller I've stayed in - and not overly equipped either. The layout of the whole place looks to have been thrown together by architects/planners on a particularly hazardous acid trip... incredibly confusing, both in the casino and the hotel side too. The car parking is seriously inadequate. The pool area is very 'debauched' in a Roman way ...but operates an 'all comers welcome' policy, which means it gets incredibly crowded all the time. And the water is freezing... It's just not that well thought out but, hey, I can't ever say to you don't stay there, can I?

Flamingo : I'd tend to echo Daytonababe's views above - it's a decent 'budget' choice but it is beginning to show its age and just lacks a bit of class. It is, however, in a superb location and - if you can pick it up in the $30-$40 per night range it is frequently available at- it's worthwhile if you need to look after the pennies.

The Palazzo : the all suite sister property of The Venetian, being slightly newer it tended to iron out a few of the design issues of that property. You get full use of The Venetian's facilities - the two properties really are one conjoined behemoth, comprising just over 7000 rooms combined. The suite itself is superb - about the same size as those at TheHotel, but differently composed, with a sunken level that really adds to the elegance of the room. Without question, the classiest hotel I've stayed in in Las Vegas with excellent (if expensive) facilities. The pool area (a decked area on the third floor) is really lovely - with a view out over The Strip as a bonus. If you fancy a real 'wow' factor, The Palazzo delivers on so many levels.

I would include the others I stayed in (Tropicana, Bally's, Imperial Palace/Quad, Hilton/LVH, Circus Circus, Vegas World/Stratosphere) but they're over 10 years ago so have probably changed enough as to be not really relevant now and some just aren't around anymore (The Park downtown - now Main Street Station- Stardust, Westward Ho, Boardwalk). There's probably others I've forgotten too...

Hope this helps...

We have visited Vegas 6 times now and have only ever stayed at the Stratosphere. We like the quieter location, the rooms are comfortable and I get a great nights sleep! We book direct with a woman at the hotel and get a great rate. As we travel to the states a few times a year, money does come in to it. This year we paid $100 for the week for their select room, don't pay resort fees, get a 5pm check out if a later flight home and a free buffet! We are going back next year as we were offered a weeks complimentary stay in 2015!

If I was only ever going to visit Las Vegas once then I would probably choose to stay centre strip

I have to admit I am becoming quite rebellious regarding this 'resort' fee business which I think is bordering on criminal (yes I know a tad OTT ) I just don't understand how they can force you to pay for something you may never use or want and when it is between $25 - $28 a room a night it can soon add up!

This is one of the reasons we are now looking for alternatives to the Signature suites ($25 a night) we do have a few places in mind.

I really can't see how the hotels can justify this charge in the first place!

Sadly the simple answer Heather is because we keep paying it.

We've stayed at:

the Signature (one bed suite)
Venetian (usual room ie suite type)
THEHotel (two bed suite)
Vdara (two room suite)

We preferred the Venetian by a mile. They were all amazing - for different reasons (with the exception perhaps of the Vdara which I just didn't connect with) - but for theme, location, room, facilities, the Venetian was my favourite by far.
