job title on esta

reluctantly I ask this , don't want to start a heated debate .


what do I put down for job , I don't work but I am not retired, just having a few years off . so not unemployed in the sense of cant find a job .

Yes, but you're not actually employed by anyone are you? So I would say your current status is unemployed, even if it's just a career break or some time off.

Just having a look at the actual questions. It asks if you have a current or previous employer, so surely you'd put your previous employer, then what your job title was. Can't see where it asks for employment status?

On out last esta I made a mistake and had down my previous job as my husbands current job and his current job I had wrongly put MY previous one .

If you press the “?” Button next to the first box in the employment section it brings up the following:

Indicate whether you have a current or previous employer by selecting yes or no. Answering this question is required to complete your application

Using the ? Buttons throughout the ESTA application gives you all the info you need to complete.

I am not working either, but I put down my previous employment details. I have not worked there for quite a while, but as the question asked current or last employer I felt this was the correct answer. I think as long as you answer the same as you put on the application if asked, then that’s all that matters.

It only asks this so that the border agent can ask you it as like a sort of security question (similar to mothers maiden name)

You could put down lion tamer or brexit cabinet secretary (both jobs with shirt tenure) so long as you remember what you said if asked
