Carnival Cruises

I went on a Royal Carribean cruise last year and it was wonderful. However, the main reason for booking that particular cruise was that I wanted to go to Grand Caymen. Unfortunately we couldn't go to Grand Caymen on account of the hurricaine that was whizzing round at the time. So this year I'm going to Orlando but have booked a 5 night cruise with Carnival while I am there which only does Cozumel, and Grand Caymen so that I can do what I missed last year.

My question is, has anyone done a Carnival Cruise and what are they like? Do they compare well with Royal Carribean? Or does the cheaper price reflect an inferior cruise?

Our first cruise was with Carnival, our 2nd with RC. In my opinion Royal Caribbean ships are prettier, but the standard of service, food ect was much of a muchness. I expected RC to be "better" but there wasnt that much difference.

Both ships were of similar sizes, I suppose this could make a difference if the ships age and size were dramatically different.

We are trying NCL this year

My brother has sailed with Carnival and we were rather worried as we thought he would not like it due to its reputation as 'fun' ships however he could not fault anything, he said the staff were very conscientious, cabins were well kept and everything worked as it should, food was fine (he is a picky eater) and he enjoyed the entertainment. We were berthed in the Caribbean beside two of their ships last November and they did look great and those who were still on board seemed to be really enjoying themselves.

I have done both and have done the Cozumel and Grand Cayman 5 night cruise (if you are a Facebook user you can add me so that you can see my albums)

I think they are quite similar and I'm sure you will move whichever cruise you do

Just as an aside, our youngest son who would have been about 24 at the time had his best cruise ever on Carnival as the teen club was brilliant

What Carnival ship are you on ? I love Carnival have sailed 6 Carnival ships, Disney, NCL and Big Red Boat. We are trying RCCL next month round the med - as my 20yo son can drink alcohol on RCCL in Europe but not on Carnival.
