Monterey Bay Whale Watching
Hello!
Please can I pick your brains, those of you who have been whale watching. We are booked for late August for a 10am trip. I have no idea if my teens will get seasick as their only sea experience has been on the Seven Seas Lagoon in Orlando so far So I'm going prepared. Please can you recommend any sea sick tablets and bands that you find work. There's so many out there, I'm not sure which to get. Also, clothing. I keep reading that it gets cold out there on the ocean. Are we talking jeans and coats? Or would we get away with jeans and hoodies with layers underneath? I really don't want to have to take great big coats with us just for 3 hours of the trip. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you |

Hi
We went with Monterey Bay whale watch located on the Wharf in 2017. We had a great experience so much so we made a point of visiting cape cod last year as part of East coast trip to go whale watching again. Neither my wife or 2 daughters (16 and 14 at the time) had ever been on a small boat like the ones they use. We only took 1 of boots own seasickness tablets with our breakfast at 8am on the day of our 9.30am trip and were fine for the entire journey. Sanctuary cruises (20 mins outside of Monterey do offer a sickness band for rent if needed. Clothes wise layers are best, it was warm when we left the Wharf and got nippy when we were at sea, a lot of people were inside but not wanting to miss a single moment we stayed on deck for the whole trip. Are you staying in Monterey or parking for the day, if you are going from the Wharf the car park is right next to it so you can always return items to your car after the trip easily. Dont forget a decent fully charged camera preferably with a good zoom, and video recording. the trips we have done have always been highlights of our trips. |

Thank you so much for this.
That's really helpful. We are just passing through Monterey from Sanfrancisco on the way down to Cambria. And I'm a vlogger, so will have lots of cameras etc... I can't wait! Thank you. |

Where are staying in Cambria, we stayed at the little sur inn on our drive up from Santa Barbara to Monterey. Absolutely stunning views over the ocean we sat on beach watching the clear sky until about 12am saw a few shooting stars which my daughter was so excited about.

I suffer with motion sickness so was worried about doing this, but we went with Sanctuary Cruise and I hired their sickness band and I was perfectly fine.
I've now bought a similar band from Amazon

That is the closest I could find to the ones that they hire. It sends an electronic signal into your arm to tell your brain that you don't feel sick. I've only used it once since I bought it, on a boat trip in Jersey, and i was totally fine. There's reviews that say it works for rollercoasters, which is the main reason I bought it, so I'll be trying it out in a few months in Florida.

I would certainly hire Sanctuary Cruises' one if you are unsure.
Ours was a 4 hour trip with 8-9 feet swell. We were bobbing up and down all the time we were out
