Gulf Coast or Keys

Hi
On our next trip we are thinking of doing a small roadtrip, would people recommend along the gulf coast or the Florida Keys, it will only be 5 or 6 nights maybe staying in places for a night or two
Regards
Rob

If you don't mind the long drive I recommend the Keys. Courtney's Place in Key West is great for a few nights. There is also a Catamaran service from Fort Myers which takes 3 hours I think. We're staying on the Gulf in Rotonda very pretty.

We've done both. The Gulf Coast has some great places to visit and lovely beaches. The Keys are also breathtaking, although we're not fans of Key West. The Keys are a long boring drive from Orlando, so I'd suggest the Gulf Coast for your trip.

Hi Rob, we love Sarasota and Longboat Key, Naples also seems to be my second home when we are over. As for the Keys we have stayed several times at the Chesapeake Resort in Islamorada, halfway along so nice and central. Selina

Hi

The journey along the keys, over the many bridges - especially the 7 Mile Bridge - is beautiful - take a look on YouTube at the "Overseas Highway"

Key West is lovely but not all of its "charms" are family orientated.

Bahia Honda and John Pennenkamp State Parks are true highlights

We did 3 days in Key West last year - enjoyed the road trip over the Keys and the above State parks :-)

This year we will look for Old Florida on Anna Maria Island on the Gulf Coast :-)

There are 3 of us with villas on the Gulf Coast advertising on Dibb. All are located in Rotonda West on the Cape Haze peninsular. We are about 45 minutes south of Sarasota and about 50 minutes north of Fort Myers.

It is a great base to explore this stretch of coastline and there is as little or as much to do as you want.

The coastline has no high rise and is skirted by barrier islands, there are some beautiful beaches to choose from and both the golf and fishing are excellent.

There are some great articles on the location.

I spent a couple of days in Treasure Island 2 years ago and it was fantastic. You can sit in the restaurants and watch the dolphins play in the harbour at St Johns pass and beaches are stunning. St Petersburg is close by and popped in to Clearwater on the way down

Staying at Rotonda West this June for 6 days so can nip down to the Everglades

We did a full Florida Road trip last year ..Starting in Miami and ending in Miami ...in that we had 5 nights at AMI on the Gulf Coast which is or was our fav place in Florida , until we spent a week in Key West ...I would be happy to go to either AMI is laid back ..Key West to me is Vegas without the high rise and casinos ...There is always something going on or to do . Going back to AMI in September again this year ...as it is lovely ...this will be our 4th time there ...But its only because Key West is to far to end this years roadtrip ..Trying to get my daughters to choose Keys for next year ...one wont entertain Florida  Yet ...think I will have to make the other options ,Withernsea or Hornsea .Whish ever you choose they are beautiful
