What would you do?

I am taking DH to Vegas for a suprise trip for his 40th in September and am a bit stuck what to do here.

I currently have flights booked on from Newcastle to Gatwick the day before and then we are staying over. Perfect.

But the flight home gives us a 6hr wait in Gatwick as there is only 1 flight we can do back up to Newcastle.

So I am thinking of removing the domestic flights and doing the train.
The plus side here is they are regular to London, and it is going to be cheaper, but when we get to Kings Cross we then have to get to Gatwick which I think is another 35 mins train. No great problem going, but again concerned about the return, being exhausted, getting from LGW to Kings Cross might be a bit of a chew.

We have a 45 mins drive to Newcastle airport or a 10 minute drive to the train station.

So would you stick with the flight and suffer the 6 hours jet lagged at LGW flight back north taking about 40 mins, or would you brave the crowds, get on your way and do the 2hr 30 mins on the train? I still think we would get home earlier?

What ya'll think?

Kerry i would stick with what you have already booked...can you not see about booking a day room maybe at the airport for a few hours or booking into one of the airport lounges ,at least that way you will be comfortable.
As for getting the train back i wouldnt as you know what they are like and it takes hours anyway and you will also have all your luggage so if the train is full might have to take it in turns to stand beside it to keep and eye in case someone decides they like it,

Hi Kerry,

We had the same dilemma! We decided not to book the flight from LGW - NCL and have decided to get the train instead (booked through holidayextras so you get open tickets if the flight back is delayed). We imagine the 6 hour wait at LGW is going to be intolerable and we'd rather be on the move home. And we can sleep on the train.

We also recognise that the journey from LGW into London, after the flight from Vegas will be difficult, so we're thinking of booking a private transfer - best price I've found so far is c£65, but that's for three of us.

Let me know if you find other alternatives, as I'd be interested!

HTH

For my Miami trip I have booked a flight down from Leeds to Heathrow , will then get the Express to the Paddington Hilton ( its literally a walk from the train ) internal flights only have a one bag 20KG limit, so instead of flying back up to Leeds on the return I have got a very good 1st Class deal for the train back home so that I can bring an extra case home from the USA. There is a Gatwick Express in to London can't remember which station it goes to.

Failing that just book a lounge at the airport so you are comfy whilst waiting for your connection home.

Oh I dunno what to do!

I would like to be straight on my way I think but its just getting through London and onto the Kings Cross Newcastle train!

Not sure now! There is good and bad to both!

I might just stick with the flights, at least by the time we have landed, gone through customs, got luggage etc and found somewhere nice to have breakfast it might not be so bad!

I would stick with the flights you have and book 4 hours in the Yotel you can "rest your eyes", watch some tv or have a shower .. a standard cabin is around £25 for 4 hours.
