Jeez, could that not cause some instability to the foundations of surrounding building? How dangerous!

The pictures on Sky news showed what appeared to be a pretty well built tunnel
I’m struggling to get my head round the benefits of HS2 and can’t help thinking money may have been better spent elsewhere. But I don’t understand how the protesters built this tunnel undetected. Perhaps they should have been employed by HS2 and it might not have gone over budget |

Now that would be a PR win for HS2. "HS2 hires environmental tunnel diggers to speed up production"
I have to say I do think we need to invest massively in transport options in this country. I have not looked at HS2 enough to give a valid opinion however the way people work now has changed quite dramatically and the need for such massive links to London may not be needed so much in the future but like I say I don't know enough about it to fall on one side or the other.

Environmental concerns form a broad church . I fully expect they have the likes of architects and construction/civil engineers among their numbers - we seemed to have moved a long way from the likes of swampy (green the protesters I saw in London among them many upper middle class professional (retired) folks so the construction of them doesn’t surprise me. ) What does generally shock me is this activity was allowed to happen and went undetected for so long - imagine if it had been a terrorist organisation wanting to plant a devise under a mainline station ? That is a HUGE worry for me and that is where I think the questions should start

I met some of these types directly when they did similar in order to prevent the Honiton/Fairmile bypass. You really wouldn’t want to invite them round for a Dinner Party. Whilst practically all the locals wanted it, the eco warriors/crusties objected and descended on Devon. We trained for nearly a year, tunnels, lock-in tubes, tree climbers etc etc. Police PSU and TAG groups, Fire, Ambulance.. the lot. It must have cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.
We hit it at first light when they were still smashed on cheap cider, stoned and kipping in their benders. It was clear and sorted, well before lunchtime... in fact well before the majority had even woken up, yet alone washed, showered and shaved... (and that was the Women!). Most unfair and unsporting of us.. Regrettably a vast amount of overtime was also cancelled. When you drive to gods country down past Honiton towards Exeter, you will see and feel the benefits of that road. Not a great crested newt, smooth Snake or anything else was rendered homeless... just the protesters. The Crusties then moved on to the Manchester runway extension, Swampy and all. I wish I could afford to be a professional protester. I struggled to see how they were in receipt of benefits, yet clearly not available for work. I can’t see how they will be socially distancing in that Euston tunnel either.. fine the lot of them! Edited at 10:59 AM. |
