DVD / CD question

Sorry if this is a bit `simple` but it is late on a Friday! Is it ok to buy DVD`s and CD`s from Virgin or Wallmart, will they play when we get home or do I need to get special ones?

Thanks x

The US uses a different TV standard (NTSC) where the UK uses Pal. Most modern UK DVD players and TVs will play NTSC DVDs. The other problem is that most commercial DVDs are region coded so, a US DVD will not play in a UK only region player. If you have a region free player or can "hack" your player to accept other regions disks you'll be OK. The following links will help,
the first explains region coding and the second how to adapt (hack) your player:

CDs will work fine and DVDs are fine as long as you have a multi region DVD player

If it doesn't say on the box or the player itself, that it's multi-region or region free, there is sometimes an on screen menu setting that tells you.

hi

it might say in the instruction booklet that came with your dvd player
or on a sticker on the machine itself

if not-see if you can borrow a Region 1 (NTSC disc) from a friend/relative/colleague and try it
