What do you expect from Afternoon Tea?
I can't believe it's being such a struggle to book afternoon tea somewhere between West Somerset and Cheltenham for mom's birthday (we will be on our way to a hotel stay)
Prices vary from about £16 each to over £30 each (and that's not with champagne) Pictures of the 'tea' sometimes don't look very exciting for the price. I would expect posh china and a tiered stand with lots of small cakes and sandwiches. I've had afternoon tea before where the sandwiches obviously weren't freshly made and I've had it where there was so much yummy food we nearly made ourselves sick It's becoming a new fad I think...does anyone know anywhere they would really recommend? I don't mind travelling a bit out of our way. I have to say, the best one I've ever had by a long way was at the Floridian, which is a bit embarrassing when you think they call it 'English Afternoon Tea' there! |

I'm not in your area (Scotland) and I've had some lovely afternoon teas. The best was Gleneagles Hotel. It was a gift from my MIL. The other ones I've been to, and enjoyed have been in what you would say are old fashion tea rooms. The worst one was through an Itison deal with Brooks Hotel in Edinburgh, closely followed by Malmaison Hotel in Dundee.

Whilst staying at Blue Anchor we used a voucher at Lion Rocks Tea rooms in Cheddar Gorge. It was delicious, don't know how far that is from you. We made a day of it as had never been o Cheddar before.

Have you had a look on Groupon/Wowcher? I know they do offers around the Yorkshire area so might be worth a look.

I love afternoon tea - I expect nice china / cake stand etc and fresh sandwiches with homemade scones and cakes.
