Win a ballot today which will cost me £96

We managed to win a slot to play the Old Course on Saturday. Cost is £96 bit it’s something always wanted to do and it will also be my birthday.

I hate to boast, but many years ago, I had 5 days on the Kings Course at Gleneagles and I was actually paid to be there….

I might mention (or not), that we were guarding the G8 conference that was taking place there at the time. Never been so bored (and bitten) in my life! Never saw a single Golf bat or ball either.

Given it's £270 between April 18 and October 16 you've got a bargain even if it is off mats now.

Enjoy. I've never played it and don't fancy it either. Now, Castle Stuart I would be there again in a heart beat.

My husband is jealous. We have played the Himalayas for a few pounds though! (Pitch and putt next to the real course for those who don’t know).

I had an offer to play at royalist George’s but watching the open I don’t ever want to play there as I think if you manage to drive to the fairway it should stay on the fairway ! Cinque ports great course but stuffy rules !

I always felt exactly the same about greens where you putt uphill, miss the hole by inches and the ball rolls back past you, off the green and into the bunker behind you.

Fair to say, I could hit the ball a long way and reasonably straight.. but had a touch like a blacksmith over the last 20 yards. I gave up after being stuck at 16 for four years. Shame I am too old for resuming Rugby or Waterpolo… perhaps Crown Green Bowling beckons?
Maybe Croquet? I was pretty useful with a mallet when repairing Army Helicopters!

Enjoy your round! It will be a marvellous experience, I am sure.

Just back. Brilliant day. Played quite well. Most of the bunkers were GUR. Only one I went into. Wasn’t! Great weather. Difficult to believe it’s January.

Greens were very fast , enormous and some of the potential positions look a mare.
