Cheaper not to have a car - then when and if your leaving pick one up from south beach. We stayed 3nts and then had our booked to pick-up at Eden Rock hotel - that way you don't pay airport tax also Dollar picked us up at the National so we didn't have to pay for a Taxi.

just got back from miami, i wouldnt stay on south beach if you paid me, they are refurbishing the beach area, the streets are packed and it takes an age to get anywhere. we stayed at the newport beachside in sunny isles which is lovely, good shops, good food, dont bother with an organised trip to sawgrass mills with virgin, you dont get much time and the place is enormous! instead arrange a bus pick up from your hotel which was 15 dollars and you can have a choice of pick up times both there and back. be warned that miami is one huge building site our favourite game was counting cranes. the beaches are fantastic, the everglades trip was good, we even ate alligator nuggets. we would go back to sunny isles in a couple of years when the building work is done, the beach was fabulous and our hotel had a lovely fishing pier. aventura mall is worth a look if only for the cheesecake factory, which we had to wait 45 mins to be seated. nice, if expensive shops, much better,we found was bayside, which was lovely, we highly recommend bubba gump restaraunt.

Wish we could get as far as Miami! love the theme park rides too much to spend anytime travelling down there!
