Esta self employed

My husband is self employed and not sure what to fill in in the ' do you have a current or previous employer '
It's a yes or no answer then asking to provide a name and address for that employer.
I'm guessing he says yes and puts his own name and business' address?

I would say "Yes" and as you say put his own details in the address. Maybe under job title he can put "Self employed XXX" (followed by the actual job title) - it's not a trick question so I would just answer everything honestly

Has he ever had an employer? My husband is self employed, and has been for about 14 years, but he entered his last employer and all went through ok.

Slightly risky in the unlikely event they ever did pre approval checks or decided he was open to further security at the border on arrival- one of the first things they may check is if he is employed by the company. If no, he’s given a false statement on Esta.

As I say very unlikely but I would not recommend someone to claim on an Esta (and declare it’s true) that they are employed by a company they haven’t worked for, for 14 years?

I would just put ‘self employed builder’ or my limited company etc.

I think the wording is along the lines of “are you employed or have a previous employer” (maybe someone can confirm or correct). I myself am retired so put down my last employer, albeit 16 years ago.

Isn't it just a secondary question, like the parents question, that they may ask at immigration.. I would think the important thing is to give the same answer that is on your ESTA ( should you be asked) rather than when it was

.

I am retired and haven’t worked for five years. As requested on the ESTA I can put down my previous employer...not an issue.
