I’m a fromie born and bred. It’s a great little town with thriving independent shops and a huge social calendar (pre covid obviously). Frome is great for a wander but no attractions to speak of.
Longleat is a great day out, most of it is open now but get there early and do a full day. I always take a picnic because the grounds are stunning. There is a big Asda and Sainsbury’s in frome (plus M&S and Iceland) so you can get a nice picnic from any of those.
Bath is beautiful to look at and the Roman Baths are definitely worth a visit, amazing to stand in Roman times and look at the modern city around you. I’d actually prefer that to looking at the rubble, I mean Stonehenge. Stonehenge is very expensive for what it is although I have heard good things about the visitor Center they built. But I’d just drive past and look out the window! You can go down the road to Avebury rings (a smaller version of Stonehenge) and free!
I’d also take a punt into bristol, it’s got more spunk than Bath and some smashing free museums.
I could wax lyrically about our corner of the world and where to go!

Well it is but the Steiner school butchered it! It’s hidden under all that ugly cladding 🙄

Me too, and I agree with your post, I love Avebury Rings a lovely walk around them and not usually too busy.

. I found out I was pregnant here, had our daughter in Frome and spent many a weekend on the Longleat Estate having picnics. Visits to Trowbridge, Chippenham, Salisbury and Bath were taken for granted. I don't think I fully appreciated the area when I lived there so its amazing to go back and revisit x x
We moved to Devizes 9 months ago and despite lockdown we are loving living here. We used to come up from Hampshire for drives but are now finding great walks on our doorstep. Don't forget all the lovely white chalk horses on various hillsides. I think I still have at least 2 to find plus the one in Oxfordshire!

Agree about going to Avebury, much nicer walk than Stonehenge although beware of parking as it is all double yellows around there, but you can park at Silbury Hill and enjoy a medium walk across to Avebury. Also lots of canal path/river walks. So far we have enjoyed Marlborough, Malmesbury and Bradford on Avon for nice walks around pretty small towns. Barbury Castle is also good for a blowy walk along the ridgeway.

Where is the cobbled street in your photos, looks so pretty and would like to visit. We are missing our annual summer drive through Imber as it isn't open this year , we normally start or end up in Warminster for that!

We rented a lodge (complete with hot tub) at Devises marina for a weekend. Loved the lodge and canal and the walk up and down the chain of locks.

Was that at Foxhangers? We've only done the Caen locks walk once so far as all the canal paths were closed but want to do it again soon. Hoping for snow this year as I would love to try and photograph it in the snow, seen some lovely ones by other people and want to do it myself!

We did Caen locks... there is a little cafe half way up that is worth a visit in our opinion.

That would be Catherine Hill in Frome! Stony Street has a little stream running up it and has some terrific shops. There’s also the Valentine lamp that is a working Victorian gas lamp, its lit on Valentine’s Day with some pomp and ceremony.
Frome has lots of quirky little places to look around. Normally in the summer we have the frome festival and one of the events is going into the frome tunnels! I’ve always wanted to do it but it sells out in seconds! They aren’t open normally and they used to be all over the town. Almost like the utilidors at MK 😂

Farleigh Hungerford castle is great for a visit too and only a few miles from Frome. If you get English Heritage membership for Stonehenge entry would then be free.

The new Stonehenge visitors centre is excellent, good cafe there as well.. sold lovely pasties 😀
