Not particularly upmarket but, it’s smart with great restaurants. We really love it there, rent an apartment. We don’t stay in the Tivoli :-)
Was looking at a villa but Covid has put me off buying.

I second this! Have been to Vale do Lobo three times and if you just want a chilled time with lovely restaurants and beach then it’s perfect, also only 20 mins from Faro airport. Only downside is villas there aren’t cheap!
A slightly cheaper area would be Quarteira, which is actually really charming as has a more ‘locals’ feel to it. We stayed in a condo in Villa Sol nearby.
Have also stayed in Vilamoura too which is the next resort along and has both beach and marina. One of our favourite restaurants Lamparo’s is right on the marina there. It’s owned (or at least as far as I’m aware still is) by Frank Lampard but is very reasonably priced

We stayed in the Tivoli once and wasn’t that impressed considering the price tag! We really love the marina area of Vilamoura though

We went years ago to a gorgeous little place called Olhos De Agua which was very compact but had some gorgeous restaurants and the beach was beautiful.

We love the area around Lagos/ Burgau. Lovely beaches ( a bit windy) historical area of winding cobbled streets, evening street entertainment and local restaurants. Burgau is just a tiny fishing village with just a handful of restaurants which you do need to book in advance.

This Easter we had booked Villa Susanna in Gale with Villaplus. Obviously we didn’t get to go ! We have used Villaplus before though and they have been excellent, refunding us in full within days. Can’t fault them at all.

I’ve never stayed just been in for a look and you are right it’s pricey- I hear the Crown Plaza is a better bang for the buck.
We rent this large apartment every year 15 mins walk from the marina. Very good value as not expensive at all and a nice complex.
Love Villamoura. I’d usually be going this coming half term.

If it’s the hotel I’m thinking of then yes it’s very nice.
That’s gutting for you, we are now thinking if the FCO lift the travel ban but the US isn’t open and Portugal is then we may book a week or two for Vilamoura in the summer or maybe the October half term. A client of mine has got a villa in Vale do Lobo and a boat moored in Vilamoura we could potentially use but if not I may ask you for the details of the condo you stay in. Lots of ifs and buts at the moment though!
Will you rebook Portugal for later in the year maybe?

I didn’t realise you owned there Colette. Do you rent it out? A client of mine has 2 there, they bought over 20 years ago when it was a quarter of the size it is now. It’s a huge complex nowadays.
We love Monty’s restaurant in the Praca and always La Creperie, ooh and Maria’s along the beach!
Has the mini golf course had a makeover yet? It was showing its age when we last went.
We’ve not been since 2016 and just talking about it has made me realise how much I want to go back

Hi Alicia, we don’t rent out - I couldn’t be doing with the hassle!
Yes it’s expanding all the time and the new W hotel is due to open soon. We are quite lucky as we are front line sea view and building restrictions in Portugal mean no development is permitted close to the sea any longer so we will always retain that front line position.
Love Maria’s too and Montys! Monica’s too. Personal circumstances restricted us recently but I’m going over with the kids as soon as lockdown is lifted and travel is allowed
