Definitely one of our options 😊. Just waiting on the Glasgow leg being updated on the aer lingus site. I think we may well end up going this route. I was considering other indirect options but a thread on here re indirect flights via the states has put me off them.

All airlines are at risk currently.
Even IAG, the owners of BA, Aer Lingus and Iberia are losing millions currently.
Unless the transatlantic route reopen soon, you can’t rely on any airline surviving

I worry these things are self fulfilling. I always think the nativity towards Norwegian hastened it's end. If people don't book with Virgin then it will really be in trouble.

TBF the worst that could happen if you had a seat booked with Virgin imo and it went under would be you would be transferred to the company that bought the slots and the cheap airline that was then for sale.. At worst you may not have a direct flight.

The only real risk is that the Pandemic never ever ends..

The stock price is horrible due to mainly shortening and funds dropping it - but loan bonds are so cheap now that I doubt Virgin are that worried. We dont live in a world of high interest rates despite high inflation (so buy cheap shares whilst you can ) so Virgin dont have to worry about the amount of bond and loan coverage.

Airlines on the outer fringes like Norwegian were not the same - they operated in debt from the outset when times were good and were not well supported in the markets. They had a long time plan to niggle the way in with a unique product - sadly Covid came along at the wrong time for them.

We're going via JFK on the way over but only because we clear immigration in Dublin and have been to JFK a good few times so know our way around, otherwise there's no way I'd risk it unless it was a very long layover!

That sounds like a good option for you! I’m afraid I’m too risk averse to book indirect via a US airport unless I have no other option. Always been direct, so it would all be new to us.

.
I don’t believe this is true.
If Virgin went bankrupt, you would be classed as a low level creditor.
Any airline who buys virgins slots as a seperate company are in now way obliged to provide seats on their airline for free or even at discounted rates.

Allowing bankruptcy and buying out before that point are not the same though - Virgin IMO would be taken over or bought out before that point
