buying a domain name
hello !
I am wanting to buy a domain name, a .com name for my son...are they any basic pitfalls I should look out for ? and rip-off prices? - I would like to do it today sometime now we have made the decision..any advive would be REALLY gratefully recieved thank you |

They should be the same price from any supplier, the only real thing to look out for is hosting, some companies are better than others, some offer free hosting but the speed at which the site loads can be slow and also they don't tend to have such good support or guarantee up time.
You don't have to buy hosting from the same company, and you can add it on at a later stage but its quicker to get up and running if you buy both from the same company at the same time. |

avoid 1 and 1, as with most other places after the year you are given the choice to renew or to not with no comeback. with 1 and 1 you are contracted so if you do not let them know before your renewal is up you'll be liable for that product again for another year.

I have no comment either way on 1and1, as I have never used them.
But I consider automatic renewal a good thing with domain names to be honest If you don't renew, and someone grabs your domain, you could find all your eMail and web traffic for that domain going to someone else. A. Edited at 01:55 AM. |
