Yes said most people use them, although they didn't do them. They said to go to another Travel agents like Thomas cook or the post office to get one.

Unfortunately though, although "when should I apply for my ESTA" is asked weekly on here, not everyone reads them until it's too late. The question is also posted by newcomers who probably don't search and have no idea that it's a regular question.

"Old timers" like me can only keep banging on and hope that it sticks

Travel agents don't always help either! Mine told me to do my ESTA close to when I was due to travel to get a full 2 years use out of it!

Luckily I had the DIBB so knew better

Only problem is when your passport gets damaged and you need a new one with just a couple of months to go! Fortunately my new passport came back fast and I had no trouble with the ESTA but it was a bit worrying until I saw that "Approved" on my application!

My H has epilepsy, i wouldn't classify it as a mental disorder. It's a neurological medical condition affecting the brain.

Or the few thousand people who were refused ESTAs because of the software debacle at SFB a few years ago.

We've had constant live ESTAs since Jan 2009. You never know when the Premium Bonds drop £25,000 into our bank account and, as pensioners, we can pack and go tomorrow

Of course I'm the exception to that statement, right gadgey? Pure as the driven snow, no criminal record, been going to the US for over 20 years, nothing changed, never over-stayed, well, apart from that teeny tiny IO mistake that led to my obliviously copping a 61 day over-stay flag on the DHS database. Stroke of luck my B2 visa meant I was allowed to board and fly to MCO where the error was corrected.

Oh yeah, nothing had changed!

My husband has a passport get lost, he replaced it and applied for the ESTA with the new one.

We got stopped at immigration for an interview because he actually had two ESTAs, one with the old passport and one with the new.

Missed our connecting flight and had to get a later one! Was a right pain.

Bonny lass

I'm sure that your north-easterly charm got you through. Maybe calling the IO "gadgey pal" would have worked as well.
