My mind is definitely made up, Washington DC here we come next year! From everything I’ve heard, it sounds like our kind of place, loads of walking, sightseeing, parks, cool places to just hang out...
thanks everyone, very excited now to start planning

I love Washington DC but strongly advise against getting a car. Parking is expensive, traffic is bad and you really won't miss it.

We had 2 nights in WDC after 5 nights in NYC. We took the train between the two. Washington is a fantastic city; clean, green and compact. Have a look the the Darcy Hotel. Very cool place to stay and near the metro.

You don't need a car in the centre of DC, Id agree. I got one and drove from the airport and for 3 days stuck it in the hotel car park. Think it was $60. That was maybe about the same as a taxi from the airport. We then went to Rehobeth.

How did you find the train? We’re travelling from New York next August and are looking at coach or train

My first trip I went on the train from NY to D.C. and found it great. I travelled as a single female and felt extremely safe and it was fun looking out the window at everything around as I went. Have been on the Amtrak several times since and would have no qualms doing it again.
