Mobile Spending Money..

Merry Christmas all!

Just a quick one.. how do you take your spending money? Mostly on a card or mostly in cash or split/split?

Thanks,
Gav

We did it on card. We took $100 cash just in case and had to make a conscious effort to spend it all. For reference, we were in the Disney bubble for ten days then Universal for 4.

We take a couple of $100 in cash. We don't "bring" anything else, we pay for things with our cards as we do in the UK.

I bring about $200 in cash. Everything else is charged to my CC. I do have a card that I can use to w/d cash at a good rate if I run low, but so far I haven’t even used my $200. The last 2 times I’ve had Free Dining deal with the $200 GC, and my parents gave us Gift certificates for Christmas, so those covered all tips. We declined housekeeping so no daily tips there plus the GC from that.

Next time if we stay off-site I may bring more, but I don’t like taking cash, so will probably have it ready in an account to w/d from.

I have a transaction fee free CC I just use for foreign holidays and use that. Will also take about $250 as I’m afraid of having no access to money abroad in an emergency (eg ATMs all down due to weather). However I find now we only need cash for tips for baggage handlers, MDE driver, bell hops and Housekeeping. Before we had the fee free CC I loaded a pre paid card as that’s simply safer in case of loss or theft.

Same for us too. The only difference to our spending at home is we use a credit card which doesn’t have a fee for foreign currency transactions.

For the last 4 trips I transfer spending money to my Revolut Card, and draw $500 out at Gatwick once through security. The rest is spent direct on Revolut whilst there, although I sometimes draw some more out if needed.

I should point out I am on the Revolut Metal plan so do not have the restrictions on withdrawals etc that the free plan does. I get enough cash back on the metal plan to cover the cost of the fee each month.
