Trust no one who takes your card away from you, as others have said, you get up and go with your card. Better to be safe than sorry.

Please don't take this the wrong way - or be offended - but this makes you appear very naive. You cannot possibly tell, based on where you are eating if someone is likely to be cloning your card or not. They don't wear a badge, nor do they appear any different from anybody else in a position of trust.

I'm sure I remember reading a news story about one of the desk attendants at a Disney moderate secretly cloning cards on a machine under her desk.

No, not offended in any way . Whilst I’m aware it does happen I don’t think it is quite the scourge some people think it is. We’ve been back almost a week now and nothing untoward has happened from the half dozen or so times my card went off with the server. Again, my handy-dandy companion app on my phone would tip me off.

I noticed quite a few of the restaurants we visited had those tablet-type things on the tables that you use to pay the bill at the end. We had them in Olive Garden, Applebees and Chilis. I suppose they get around these concerns.

I paid by card at Applebees recently, the server went to head off with my card, I stopped him and asked if he had a portable machine, he said no, but would be right back, I went with him to the card machine which is out of sight of the restaurant, I don't think he was very happy, but that's not my problem, better that than the potential of card being cloned and the hassle that would cause.
