Hong Kong
We were there for 4 days this year. Great place. We had no problems with safety, walked everywhere without any worry. The night markets(Temple Street) are worth seeing ( Kowloon side) Must do the Star ferry, Stanley market is good, Mo Man Temple ( Hong Kong side ) is great loved the insense burners, took the train to and ferry back from Lantau Island. Transport is easy and cheap and clean. We stayed Kowloon side but either side is as good.
The Peak is fine on a good day, the tram to the top is worth doing even if you can't see anything from the top! Which we couldn't. Ate in Dan Ryan's steak house ( brilliant, and before anyone says you should eat as the chinese do, it was full of Chinese! ) Tried a local chinese restaurant, fine. Happy Valley racing is good to do ( we did not have time) Hope that helps Jo |

Thanks for the info Jo - sounds like you had a great time - I can't wait!
Did you find it very expensive to eat/travel/amuse yourself there? |

Hong Kong
We stayed at the Kowloon Shangri-La ( very nice) You can take a Duk Ling ride which you book up for free at the tourist centre. Went to Kowloon park on Sunday afternoon when they were having a martial arts contest and tai chi ( the two boys in the "dog" dance were brill). You can get an Octopus card which lets you travel on the ferry and trains ( buses too I think) which is cheap and you can add credit if needed. When you leave you can get a refund on the amount not used. I got the travellers guide from the Hong Kong tourist web site, which they sent free. It had loads of info and adverts for things to do in it. The central mid levels elevators are not to be missed! |
