Question for parents of young drivers

What did you pay to add your child to your car insurance as a learner driver?
DD is 17 tomorrow and as well as lessons we thought practice in my car would benefit her, (and maybe need to pay for less lessons)
I know this will vary considerably according to type of car etc, but just looking for a rough idea before I get on the phone and cry with shock at the quote. I literally have no idea if it’s going to be a couple of hundred or thousand!
I have a Kia Picanto with a 1 litre engine.
Thanks

I think we paid approx £100/month. We stopped after a. Few months as she was only driving it 3 or 4 times a Month so it made for expensive practice.

We found it cheaper to pay for insurance with Marmalade. They insured our son independently of our policy to drive our car as a learner so it would not affect our policy if there was a claim. We just did a one month policy. We actually decided that it was better sticking to lessons with a professional instructor and only did that one months insurance for him.

Our son got his own policy because the risk of accidents is so much higher, and I didn't want my insurance premium going up.

We used Marmalade for both of our children, you can book 1,2,3 months or longer. We originally booked 3 months then extended when we needed to.

My son had his own policy, plus a black box fitted.

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t even realise taking out a separate policy for DD would be an option so I will look into that.

We used covered learner driver.com and got my son a policy to use my car but not affect my insurance if he had an accident. We paid for a block of days that we had to use within a set time period and every time he wanted to practice we would activate that day and receive a cover note.
