Running the MDE app all day drains phone batteries pretty fast. Even if I haven't already had magicbands I would buy them like most off site guests do already.

Personally I like MBs and would happily pay for one. But it's not like the world will end if they stop them - every other park manages without them.
I was told the cost of a magic band to disney is $8-9. A RFID card would cost $1-2.

A rumour I've heard is that RFID cards will be handed to on site guests due to in park wifi issues and black spots. Which sounds right given that many of the 2nd FP+ scanners are further inside the show buildings and your usually out of signal way before then. Take it with a pinch of salt though, I imagine disney not to do this so you'll buy a magicband just for convenience.

We visited last year and stayed off site. We couldn’t justify the additional cost of magic bands for 4 when we only had 2 days planned at Disney.
We therefore stuck with the original plastic credit card style ticket which we used for accessing rides and getting into the park. It was fine and I used my mobile phone for the MDE.
If people are desperate for the magic band, they can purchase them still and on-site guests will be able to purchase them cheaper.
For those who visited before magic bands, it’s the same as that, only plastics tickets rather than paper ones.

This will be our 4th trip to Disney and never had/used magic bands so was looking forward to seeing what these were all about. I never take my phone to the parks, even when I holiday else were I never take my phone, so if there is no magic bands free, I may just buy on or as someone mentioned earlier in the thread kind of go old school. I agree these small things may take away the magical, special touches to peoples holidays especially for kids.

The more I think about this the more annoyed I get.. they charge you a bomb to stay on site with all the previous perks scrapped, and now if you want a physical key to your room you have to pay extra!

I'm not sure but if I go to pick magic bands, the basic ones are still there saying $0.00 so I assume so? Annoyingly, we'd paid extra for the nicer ones for our original booking and now it's moved dates, they've just vanished and I have no clue what to do about that.

Yep, same for us too. My order is still on my profile if I check that way, but as the booking isn't listed on MDX yet, I can't see if they've been added to that booking. Probably not, I'd wager - so that'll be another thing to sort out!

Our new one is on MDE but it's saying I can pick new bands so I don't think they have gone across. I've emailed them about it so hopefully they sort it out!

Hopefully, they'll be left in our room at CBR as physically "checking-in" is being phased out. Who knows!
