Pop - Preferred room worth it?
We’ve got two weeks booked in a standard room. A request has been made for 60s but I know it’s not always guaranteed.
It’s £219 to upgrade to a preferred room but is it worth it? Using the TouringPlans room guide it looks like no matter where you stay it’s not too far to walk for transport/lobby. What are people’s thoughts? |

I've stayed at both standard and preferred rooms at Pop.
My first stay there I was in the 90s (standard room). Didn't put in a room request, because I had no idea of the sheer size of Pop. The 90s was so incredibly far from everywhere! On subsequent stays I tended to go for preferred rooms, which were closer to the lobby and food court. However I then had one stay where I went for a standard room (I wanted a refurbished room and the preferred rooms hadn't been refurbed yet), and found that I could get standard rooms that were just as close to everything as the preferred rooms! So since then I've just been booking standard rooms. On my last trip in 2019 I think I was in the 60s (they were great and gave me pretty much what I requested room wise), which was an absolutely fantastic location as it was so close to the skyliner station. I guess after all of that, my general feel with preferred rooms is that they are nice if I feel like paying extra, but otherwise I've been happy enough with standard rooms at Pop provided I manage to put in a request and get somewhere that isn't too far away! (Pop is actually a really huge resort - I wasn't really prepared for how huge it was on my first stay there!) Edit: though some of the moderates are even larger than Pop! They have more bus stops though while Pop has just the one bus stop...

No, not worth it at Pop. We were "magically" upgraded one year to a preferred and aside from more foot traffic and noise from the pool, there was little difference.
Just make a room request in either the 70s, 60s or 50s as they are all fairly close to the Classic Hall. Just avoid the 80s and 90s. Of course things at Pop are slightly different now with the Skyliner (assuming they figure out how to get it to stop crashing into itself... but I digress). If you want to be close to the Skyliner station and Classic Hall just ask for a regular room in the 60s. Edited at 07:27 PM. |

The rooms in both the 60s buildings that don't face the pool are standard, we have always requested one of these and gotten one 4 times out of 5, the last time we were in the 70s block and found that just as easy really. We request 60's lake view and save the cash, the resort isn't that big that the walk is a deal breaker for us.

Brill, thanks all. Probably won’t bother upgrading and just see how it goes!
