The British are coming! - Boston April 2016

A quick pre-trip report for my forthcoming Boston trip in April.

I fly to Dublin the day before, stay overnight at the Holiday Inn Express and fly on to Boston with Aer Lingus the following day. I've paid for the flights mainly with Avios, so the actual cost for the return to Dublin and the return to Boston was £110.

I'm staying B&B at The College Club of Boston, the oldest women's college club in the States. Luckily they let men stay in the B&B part. A single room with shared bathroom and breakfast is £660, although only two bedrooms share a bathroom so that shouldn't be too bad. No TV's in the room but free wifi. A great location just off of the Public Gardens and close to the main shopping streets.

I have two things booked, both sports. I'm watching the Red Sox v Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday and the basketball game between the Celtics and Miami Heat on the Wednesday. It's the Celtics last game of the regular season so I'm hoping they may need something from it to make the play-offs. I may fit in the Red Sox v Blue Jays game on the Friday but haven't committed to that.

Other things on the to do list are:

A trip to Concord to visit the Old North Bridge, and then a 7 mile stroll to Lexington along the Battle Road, retreading the path taken by the retreating redcoats after "the shot heard around the world". I'm a bit of a revolutionary history buff so am really looking forward to this.

Walk the Freedom Trail.

Tour the Harpoon Brewery.

Shop at Assembly Road.

Harvard and MIT.

Generally mooch around.

I'm really looking forward to it, although I have a trip to Germany with my eldest to watch some Bundesliga football to pass the time before then.
