Also id suggest never borrow to fund DVC. It is economically insane to do so, especially at the 10% rate Disney charge. It is a luxury purchase, if you cannot afford to buy outright, stay away.

Loola not sure if this will affect your way of thinking but worthy baring in mind, at the minute I believe that Direct you are "stuck" with the Poly or Copper Creek, both lovely resorts but on the minimum buy in at 100 you can't even get a full week's stay, at the lowest point cost, or 2 weeks every second year & at $185/point you would be paying a very high premium to stay somewhere "cheaper". Niki T briefly mentioned 50 years, the 50 years start from when the resort officially opened not from when you/we all bought in so the likes of WLV-Boulder,BCV,OKW,BWV end 2042, SSR 2054,AKV 2057, BLT 2060...
Also worth thinking about the fact that Disney isn't exactly a cheap holiday even with your "Free" accommodation! I bet for us, 2 Ads for 17 nights, we don't get much change out of £6k with flights etc.

Minimum buy in isn't 100. We bought 75 and could have bought less. I think 50 is the lowest.

LadyD I'm shocked that it has gone as low as 50, that's 1 weeks stay every 2 years for most resorts! When we bought in the minimum was 160 which is only £24K on todays prices. Good marketing though as "they" know that you will come back for add -on later

Think 50 is the minimum add on at Copper Creek direct, everywhere else direct minimum add on is 25.

It's not even enough for a week every 2 years at VGF! We got 125 points because that was the minimum for a week.
They've really cut the minimum in the last few years. We looked in 2013 and it was 160 recommended but I think 150 minimum. We were definitely offered 100 in 2014 but didn't see the point in getting less than 2 weeks every 2 years.

We bought enough for ten nights every two years in low season at BW or BC. It will be plenty for us as a start.

To clarify this. For a first time purchase the minimum number of points one can buy is 100.
However, and this happens regularly they reduce this number to as low as 50.
Add on is totally different as that is 25.
