You can't use the EHIC card in America though - you can only use it in Europe.

Part of the problem is when you do a Google search (I think most people use Google as their search engine) the official US Govt Esta site is not at the top of the searches. More tech savvy people may be able to explain this.

Edited at 12:13 PM.

I wonder what % of non Dibbers use the unofficial sites. Suppose it's substantial enough to fund them being in business.

Another thing I'm grateful to the Dibb for.

That's exactly it, I have learnt so much from the Dibb and advise friends too, but not everyone is on here... yet!

The search depends on your history. As I use the official ESTA site regularly, the top return on the Google search is the official ESTA site
So as you say if others are going on first time they may get something else. I can't tell which one as it always goes to the official site with me. The wonders of technology

I searched last week on google for ESTA - got the proper site.
Today I googled to Update ESTA (I always change my address on next visit) and I got taken to a very real looking alternative site but clicked as soon as they wanted to charge me for the free service.

I think the word European gives it away!

Moral of the story, don't change a valid esta.
