New at cruising, some help please!
We are going on our first ever cruise this year, and I am so excited! I have a couple of questions that seasoned cruisers might be able to help with...
1. I am crushing from Miami, and will park at the port in the official carpark. We might leave some of the luggage in the car (no valuables and out of view). Is this a really stupid idea? 2. We are due to sail at 5pm, last boarding is at 3pm. What is the most sensible time to get there? Will there be a stampede of people as soon as it opens (I can't find the time that it does open ) 3. We have bought a drinks package, and we have a nice cabin with a veranda. Will we be able to take our drinks back to the cabin with us? Sorry if the questions are silly!

Hi, you will love cruising and have sailed out of Miami several times.
I can't answer your question re carparking as we always drop car off at the rental depot and pick up again when we return. We always aim to get to the port at around 11am but you should get a time for your arrival. We aim for that time so once boarded can go for a spot of lunch and explore. Yes you can take drinks and food back to your cabin. Our favourite time was our pre dinner nibbles and drink on the balcony. Have a fab time x

Thanks that's fantastic!
So will I get a time to arrive closer to the date?

It tells you on your e-ticket what time you can board, but we always go earlier than that! No stampede...!

We always get to the port by 11 am and by 12:30 we are eating a nice lunch! Even if they give you a later boarding time you can get on earlier. We have left non-valuables in our car covered over.

We have done a Bahamas cruise out of Miami port and we parked in the port car park right opposite our cruise ship, think it was about $20 per day and it was in a covered and safe location. I would recommend you find out where exactly your ship is berthed (there are different companies - Royal Carribean, Norwegian, etc) as you want to be in the car park nearest your cruise ship.
I would suggest you aim for 1pm boarding and have lunch before sailing. You will not be able to access your room but you can leave your cases with security and they will take them to your room for you. The drinks package is worthwhile but wifi access is expensive (think about $25 per day) and if you have your data roaming on it costs a fortune - as I found out when I turned mine on for a while in Nassau! Have a great time |
