Sorry OP, if I had booked that aisle seat (and I always try for an aisle) and you were trying to get past every 5 mins I would be far from happy. Like others, I cannot for the life of me understand why you would not look for 2 seats together at the back of the plane.
On your original post, "let's just hope they dont mind getting up every 5 mins if I have anything to eat" tells me the simple solution. Don't eat and have some consideration for other passengers rather than inconveniencing others.

So guys had the dreaded call back from Virgin, they have spoken to the passenger and he is saying he refuse's to move from the aisle seat, and when virgin discussed my condition he said he to them he takes a sleeping pill before the flight so will be asleep most of it so i guess it will be a starvation thing for 9 hours

If there was the slightest chance I'd suffer having to go to the toilet on a plane with anything other than something solid I'd be starving myself for as long as necessary beforehand and eating Imodium to ensure it wasn't an issue. I definitely wouldn't be hand wringing about it on the internet and inferring it was another passengers fault.

Can you move to a different flight? Virgin usually have a few a day?

Gosh some of these replies are harsh - even if you dont agree surely there is no need to be so harsh to the OP.
As for the sleeping tablet - i dont have any medical conditions but I would be concerned myself if the person in the aisle seat takes a sleeping tablet which means I am very restricted from being able to move about when I need to - I mean I go to the toilet 3/4 times on a 9 hour flight, and like to walk about plenty. I am also a nervous flyer and need to be near a window or else I panic more. I think its unreasonable (whatever you feel about this situation) for the person in the aisle seat to assume that they will be able to sleep through the whole flight and not be disturbed? also, surely starving yourself for 9 hours (and before) is unreasonable as well? that would probably make me feel awful! |

Neilandrew - do you fly often? If food means you have to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes I wouldn't eat anyway, there is often a wait for the bathroom. Or honestly I would take the financial hit and change my flight and possibly even purchase an extra seat or see what Virgin can do to accommodate both you and your partner.

I sympathise with the OP re their medical problems, but I am surprised when people book seats with the hope that someone wont be sitting next to them (there was another thread about booking window and aisle seat).
On the majority of flights I have made to Orlando, there has rarely been many, if any free seats. If I had special needs (i.e frequent access to toilets) I would book the seats at the outset that would give me that speedy access. |
