Mobile Anyone signed up for VW emissions claim?

Bought a three year old diesel VW Golf in 2013 and sold it two years ago after spending a fortune sorting out issues with it. We fit criteria for the claim but concerned about small print about maybe being liable for some legal expenses if claim fails. Can’t help thinking that if courts rule against VW then everyone with a covered vehicle would be able to claim anyway. Has anyone else signed up? Closing date for claims is in four days time but with 50 pages of Ts&Cs to read through, I’m interested in other people’s thoughts. Thanks

I did then I pulled out of it after reading more terms and conditions about legal costs. There was lots of emails from Leigh Day and I wasn't sure in the end what I was signing up to. I've still got the car and no it wasn't what I was led to believe it was on emissions. I haven't had the fix as read so many horror stories on performance after. I can't afford to replace it at the mo but know it won't be worth what it should be.

Might I ask what the "claim" is for?

You bought a 2010 car in 2013, so it would've been out of warranty, so any unrelated faults were unfortunately yours to fix.

The emissions scandal hit late (Sept/Oct) 2015, and the recalls to replace the "defeat mechanism" software/parts started Jan 2016, and this would have been at VAG's cost.

So when did you sell the car? From all my Googling, the resale value of VAG diesels was hit in the US, but not so much the UK (or at least, Google doesn't tell us a definitive "yes, VAG's relsale value dropped by x/y/z%), and if you sold your before the scandal hit the news, what material/monetary losses have you suffered?

2016 VAG sales rebounded after a 2% market drop in '15 to hit record levels... then again 2017 (BBC has figures for these), so folk are still buying and selling them.

Not picking a fight, just genuinely wondering about what the loss suffered was?

I'm not sure if we are entitled or not we had a 2010 touran lovely car, sadly had the update when it went in for something else and the engine light promptly came on two days later... I then found the fix fail group on Facebook.

Px'd the touran shortly after at a loss but couldn't risk it going into limp mode with the kids in the car

We had all the relevant letters re it being an affected engine whilst we still had the car. With only 60,000 miles on the car it broke down on the motorway and cost over a thousand pound to repair due to EGR valve and completely clogged pipes. VW garage wanted double that for repairs and were insistent was nothing to do with the fact that it was an affected model. We’re not convinced.

on MSE I read that the legal insurance may not cover all the legal costs if VW win. Not sure if that was Leigh Day or slater and Gordon tho who are both taking it on

Did you have the emissions software update done? If so, VW was forced to offer a 2yr warranty which I think should have covered the EGR.

Our family is quite new to VWs and we quite like the cars, but anything to do with VW UK or its dealers is horrendous. If there was any way to get money out of them then I'd be only too happy to grab it- they certainly make every attempt they can to get money out of me.

Yes they are meant to offer any repairs and warranty them with faults relating to the fix under the trust building measures scheme

We were still awaiting the recall date for the update when we sold it. I wrote a huge letter to the VW garage we bought it from and their main HQ, who denied that the fault had any bearing on the works and wouldn’t cover it. They were all over us when selling the car but shocking after sales service.
