This is the first I've heard of this.
I have a 2015 blumotion golf.
Should I be worried.
Does it just die whilst driving?
Do you get any warning?

I'm not sure what year it stops affecting vehicles,

Its the ea189noxemissions and if you vehicle was effected you would of had a letter asking you to get the fix done for free. If you brought your car recently you can check online to see if your vehicle has had it done

Just drive it. The EGR issue is not related to this at all. They clog up occasionally on all makes. If you mainly use supermarket fuel then its good to add some additives every so often to help remove build ups. Again not VW specific. If the EGR does clog then usually it just needs cleaning and not replacing. If it does need replacing its a £1-200 part and an hours labour.

In the UK there was no financial loss as a result of this VW scandal. Residuals did not drop (other than for all makes based on the things like the UEZ zone in London), tax and insurance stayed the same. There is no compulsory requirement to get any modifications made if you don't wish to.

We are quickly turning into a US compensation society unfortunately.

We don’t use supermarket fuel and quite happy that the cost of the repair to our car was fair as it was a garage we’ve used for years. We bought a VW from our main dealer expecting a reliable car and this wasn’t the only problem we had with it, and sold it at a huge loss. Probably we were just unlucky but it’s put me off diesels and VW if I’m honest

Yes but there is a heck of alot of cars going into limp mode in dangerous situations, which shouldn't be happening and wasn't happening before the update.

Not sure I agree with that, my local independent VW specialist has seen a large increase in EGR replacements on vehicles that have had the fix done. He strongly advised me not to have it done.

Thats not quite right, an independent Autocar test has shown the MPG dropped autocar/car-news/i...gen-diesel-fix

Now I'm not saying we should sue VW but we are worse off plus we were mislead as they now emit higher CO2 emissions than before.

Thankyou.
I've had no letter about a fix so I presume mine must be ok?
I've had it 2 years and had no problems at all.

Actually there were just as many, just didn't get reported in the same way. Someone did a FOI request some time ago and the numbers didn't really change much at all.

Glad you were happy, I suspect there was something more involved if the fix at an independent was over £1k. The main dealer price for a Golf Mk6 (2013) diesel EGR is £240 and takes no more than 1 hour for a garage to change.

Sounds like you had more issues than just the EGR blocking up. Unfortunate but unlikely to be related directly to the fix applied by VW. Even without the fix you were more than likely going to be one of those who suffered and EGR issue in a diesel. I suspect there may have also been a swirl flap issue which often goes hand in hand on diesels. This is suffered by pretty much every brand, so not just a VW thing.

Unfortunately the government got people buying diesels who really did not need them by offering incentives through pricing and road tax. Now they are trying to push people the other way by saying that they are worse for people than petrols due to higher NoX. Unfortunately they are ignoring the fact the hydrocarbons are taken into the blood stream far more easily than NoX and are more harmful. Petrol's kick out more hydro carbons than diesels so again, by going with the mass media they are making the wrong moves again to appease the public. Diesels are worse than petrols in creating smog though, so neither are actually good, and the sooner we get to electric or other non carbon based fuels the better.

Completely understand why people do not want to get the fix done, but if they do then EGR failures either will or won't happen regardless. Its not related, just one of those diesel issues.
