road trip next august
So, a decision has been been made for next year...hopefully! back to WDW, it will be 4 years, so time to go again. spending 10days ish in a villa doing disney/Orlando, then thinking of doing a road trip for 4-6 days.
we don't want to go south, done Miami, AMI, Clearwater, so fancy somewhere new, would love ideas..thinking St Augustine, but also love the idea of travelling further up into a different state...will have a 16 & 13 year with us Thanks

We did a road trip up to Georgia (Savannah) a couple of years ago and it was fab! The route was so easy and it was great to visit a place with so much history.

St Augustine is absolutely lovely! I'd 100% recommend it. There's so many cute little shops and things to see. We stayed over one night in St Augustine because there's so much to see. I wouldn't recommend Daytona Beach, it's a bit grim. We didn't stay long.

Another thumbs up for St Augustine here... We did two nights there in our '18 hol. Really liked it, lovely town, steeped in history. Winery (alas, be only brought back four bottles of San Sebastian Rosa), fort, distillery, historic district... loads to see and do.
For the "road trip" aspect, hit the freeway from Orlando to Ormond Beach (just up from Daytona Beach), then hop on the A1A Historic Coast road for the drive north - adds maybe fifteen/twenty minutes to the drive, but it's a beautiful drive, so much better than fighting with leviathan pick-ups and semis on the freeway all the way... and if you're like me, then google some of the houses you see at Flagler Beach or Painters Hill (IIRC) and put an extra Euromillions ticket on! |

Another vote for Savannah its beautiful and a world away from Orlando There are lots of rest stops with facilities to pull into on the way up, we took a cool box for snacks and drinks as the rest stops only have vending machines but plenty of walking space and toilets! IF you like BBQ Savannah has some great restaurants, I would'nt bother with a ghost tour though we went on one and it was a bit of a waste of time . Another hour or so and you can go to Tybee island which is gorgeous Edited at 02:14 PM. |

We stayed in St Augustine and would definitely return! Lots to see and do, great restaurants and bars, lots of history and good beach.
See trip report in signature for some photos!
