We are just back from Kauai and while a car was great, I think you could probably manage without but you'd be reliant on the bus, tours or taxi.

We had no car while in Oahu and staying in Honolulu but we were only there 4 days so used taxi's and uber.
Hawaii (Big)Island we had a car but lots of tours to major sites, but I'm sure the cost would rack up. The Hilton resort area at Waikoloa had a trolley service round the various hotels and condos to the shopping centre, beach, etc.

Maui we stayed in Wailea and could walk to shops, restaurants, beach on your doorstep, other hotels and there was a bus along the main road as well has Uber and taxis. We did also do a tour of the Road to Hana from here.
Loved Maui (despite DD ending up failing off a bike and having to undergo various x rays and spending the next week in a wheelchair and crutches) Wailea was great to get about in the wheelchair and crutches.

Hawaii Island was stunning and very different with some of the best snorkelling I've every done, beating the Maldives, Bermuda, Key Largo and Barbados. Getting to poke the lava flow is something we'll never forget.

Honolulu wasn't for me too busy and commercialised but I knew that before I went so that is why it was only a few days in a 3 week trip. I had gone all that way so had to tick off Pearl Harbour. DD loved the shopping which DH gladly paid for due to her injuries.

Hi

We did Waikiki and Aulani last year

We used Charlie's taxi to Waikiki beach, Aulani, cruise port

If book in advance request a flat fare. Think it is a third off

We had a day touring the island, with a mini bus full of people. Which was fab, can give you info if want ... Saw pineapple co, but factors, beaches, and the best bit turtles

Restaurants are right by you in Waikiki

Hubby used Roberts transfer to and from pearl harbour

Polynesian centre which is supposed be one best luau provides transport for a fee

This year we are going back week Waikiki beach, week Aulani then Anaheim/Hollywood

Not using a car again, hubby doesn't want to drive

Doing Polynesian
Going to pay out for private tour
Going use Waikiki trolley
When at Aulani if want go out few evenings then just pay for cab

We did the Disney Hawaii cruise last year ... We also loved Maui ... Very chilled ... Beautiful ... Road to hana tour ... Luau etc

Hope that helps
