Turkey looks lovely , somewhere we have never been but I am probably being silly but is it safe ? I guess I am thinking of it’s proximity to Syria . The villas look lovely and fairly inexpensive compared to other parts of Europe but is that because no one wants to go there ?

Absolutely agree colin39.
Areas are quite different though
Fethiye ,uzumlu etc our favourite too.
However lots of the hotels are older style but Lara beach and Antalya have huge all inclusive snd it’s a few degrees hotter It’s not my favourite area and I wouldn’t go there in the summer months as the nights are too hot for me and I also think it lacks character but with everything that’s gone on this year we are considering Side for October half term but we will wait to book until last minute.
Kalkan is lovely We also liked Sarigerme ,
Lovely people ,lovely food I could go on and on and on .
I would say it’s as safe as anywhere ,the beaches are never crowded ,there is something for everyone history activities or lazing about .
Give it a go I’m sure you won’t regret it

We have booked a couple of weeks in Turkey after having to postpone our WDW trip this August.
We have been to Olu Deniz and Side a few times, but not for a few years due to some of the concerns the OP raised.
DH has done lots of research about the current situation and also on COVID prevalence and he has deemed it OK, so we are going!
We are going for a 5* all inclusive but that's partly because we got a great deal and as NHS workers we just want to chill out!

The Syrian border is miles away from the main touristy areas more to the west

been to Turkey @5 times & woudnt hesitate in going based on it being 'safe'

although will say young women/teenage girls might feel/get intimated when out & about in certain parts

imo of course

I do like Turkey. Prefer the smaller towns around side.

Having been there last year do think you should persevere with Trogir fist though 😁. I will be trying again for next year too. easyJet flights were reasonable too.

Or are you thinking BOTH 😉

I completely respect the opinion of everyone who has posted on this thread so far, but personally, I don't get the love for Turkey. Have only been once myself but would never go back.

With two blonde haired daughters, we seemed to attract so much attention wherever we went which made us feel very uncomfortable. The concept of respecting personal space appeared non-existent with people wanting to touch their hair and we were hassled everywhere.

I also feel that women are still seen as subservient to men in Turkey - violence against women is common and well documented - which is not a message I want to promote to my daughters and is another reason I won't visit.

We have been several times but we are hotel people that only venture out for a quick wander and are always eager to get back to enjoy the hotel.
Never experienced any intimidation towards women, that has really surprised me, maybe this is more likely when exploring outside of the hotel?
We stayed in Belek in the Voyage hotel and absolutely loved it, the staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was plentiful and varied and there was a mix of adult only areas and family areas, it was that good that we went back there three times.

I've got a blond haired blue eyed daughter - we went there when she was say 2, got in the lift with some Russians or Turkish, they took a photo of her 🙀🙀

That being said we do like Turkey. Wouldn't go there with her as a teenager though!
