You are given a great little map when you get your tickets, will certainly help you decide when to hop on and off to maximise your time. We find the earlier you start on the trains the more you can get to do as later in the day more people arrive the trains can get really busy, there are at least two rival train companies which travel almost the same route with slightly different stop off points. You wear stickers so that you know which train to get on to and which stop to stand at when waiting for your next one.

I would also recommend the Flagler Tour, maybe more for adults though.

We stayed at the Best Western Spanish Quarter which is not far from the fort and quite reasonably priced compared to some of the accommodation, if staying overnight wasn't initially in your plans. It's maybe not the most salubrious but it'll do the job and let you have more time to explore rather than rushing around.

I have been thinking about her recently. I know she often travels to the UK in school holidays. Like you I do hope she is ok. I miss her pithy replies, they made me chuckle.

Thanks everyone for your replies I really appreciate it. We don't have a car so have no means of getting there but would have loved to stay a bit longer. Happy planning and holidays to everyone x
