Total service failure :(
I had a new integrated dishwasher delivered today (I also paid for them to install it when I ordered).
So from the get go the guys where a little off, almost like my job was a pita for them as the old dishwasher didn't just pull out easy. I had no idea it wouldn't be straight forward but the fee I paid covered removing my old one and doing everything. They muttered loudly that the person who fitted my kitchen needed to get themselves a new job and commented about a cable being wrapped around a foot. My son then comes into the room and tells me the electrics have gone off in the rear extension, the cable behind my cabinets is the feed for the extension. Something had tripped the fuse box, the guys continue to install the dishwasher, I heard them sawing off the legs off the old dishwasher but I felt a little uneasy with them so stayed in the other room. He switched the dishwasher on and told me to leave it to run its cycle also told me he checked the electric cable and he hadn't caught it and left. I went into the kitchen and my hubby went and flicked the trip switch and a fireball came out from behind the dishwasher and tripped the electrics again hubby said fuse board sparked with it too! I had no issues with my electrics before they came and for the fire to come from exactly where they where working they have to have caught something. My boiler has also lost electric too so must be somehow on the same circuit or its just blown through the board too (we have 3 fuse boards) so most of the house is on except extension and boiler). I have spent the best part of the day trying to get a spark out and have resigned myself to being cold tonight To add insult to injury I have just opened the dishwasher and can see that its been installed completely wonky but they switched it on without even emptying it so there are screws in there, melted plastic on the tray racks, the bits that are meant to spin have never been released so still fastened with plastic tape and all the stickers that say 'remove before use' are there. I think they obv just wanted to escape from my house asap after causing damage and I just cannot believe this has happened.

Photograph everything especially the stuff in the dishwasher and the labels etc.
Get the electrician to sort it and pay his bill. Ask for a written report from him ref what caused the problem. Then send the lot to the company the machine came from asking for a new machine, the refund of the installation costs, the payment for the electrics being damaged and a goodwill gesture. Standby for a lengthy battle sadly. In the interim dont use the machine even when the electrics are sorted.

I would have been suspicious when they said “ he has not caught the electrics” why would he say that ?
However may be hard to prove it. Take lots of photos and videos and dig in for the battle. |

I worry they will lie over it but they knew the electrics tripped out whilst they where messing so I just hope they admit that. It will all need pulling out again but I will leave that to the guy I have coming tomorrow and once he has fixed I will ask for a report for his findings and repair. I just hope its easy to fix as it is really cold without heating esp for my youngest as she's only 2 and had a love of running around naked at the moment so she is like an ice box. I have photos of everything and once its all pulled out I will be taking photos of the damage when the electrician is repairing it. I paid via credit card, its a well known electrical store so I really hope they once they have all the evidence its straight forward.

Sounds like they caused a problem but the bigger problem is you have a live cable giving power to whole house section wrapped up under a dishwasher! As said above hopefully your electrician will sort but the installers could not have known that pulling a dishwasher out would snag a major electrical cable. Leaving the screws and 'remove before use' tape though - lazy and careless.

As Tom said really, take lots of photos and contact the company asap and explain what has happened and see if they are going to offer any refund or compensation for this. The live cable behind the dishwasher sounds concerning, so I would get the electrician to ensure it is safe there and move it if necessary.
If the company doesn't accept any responsibility, you could ring CAB consumer helpline for advice. citizensadvice.uk/co...onsumer-issue/ |

The extension was all signed of by building control and electrical certificates so to the best of my ability I can only assume that it fully complies. The installer fully knew the cable ran along the back though as there was space next to the dishwasher where the range cooker was pulled out and he cut legs off so shouldn't of had to touch cable at all.
I will be asking the spark about the cable tomorrow though to make sure its legal if not then it opens up a whole new chapter with building control and my builder.
