Red Tide - east coast

Local TV in Fort Lauderdale is reporting that tests are being carried out in the Deerfield Beach area as there are indications that Red Tide is hitting the Atlantic coastline. People being interviewed are describing breathing irritation and there are dead fish being washed up.
Not good news unfortunately.

Now, surely this shows that it's not a normal outbreak of red tide that's occurring. I know temperatures are higher than normal for the time of year which feeds the algae but for the toxic red tide to appear via coastal outlets from Lake Okeechobee, is either a massive coincidence or people are turning a blind eye for political reasons (i'll take the latter).

Red Tide blooms do occur in the Atlantic all the way up to North Carolina but are less frequent than in the Gulf.

Sign of things to come unfortunately.

MOTE don't test on the Atlantic coast in the same way as they do on the Gulf.

The MOTE site is good but, as mentioned above, they don’t seem to test the East coast...

Well, I don’t think I can rearrange everything again so we’ll probably stay put on the Atlantic coast and take our chances!
